If they are driving DD's with horses there Bill of Laden must state on it where they are headed. If they don't deliver where they are suppose to go and they get caught that is a federal offense with massive fines.

They also have Federal Brand Inspectors, they stop every livestock truck and check them. Here in Calif, there is the a check station at the border, there is another weigh station a huge one at Cottonwood. Ever since 9/11 they are pulling over Uhaul and any other truck with a box body.

I find it hard to believe that so many truckers are willing to lose their trucks, licenses, and get fined over hauling horses when there are so many other loads they can haul.
Well, I'll be danged!!! Where the heck you been woman????

As far as those truckers violatiing the transportation laws with DD trailors.....most of them DON'T actually transport those animals into the foreign countries themselves and straight on to the slaughter plants. Those horses are dropped off at the borders at feedlots. So, in reality, they are NOT transporting them to slaughter, according to the way the laws are written!

Does it make sense now?

OK....gonna go finish my yard, then get chores done. IF I survive and don't get heat stroke, I'll be back in a couple of hours.

This thread is intriguing me. I think this is one of the few slaughter threads, where actual discussion was happening, instead of arguing. LOLOL Great job everyone, even if you don't agree with me.

I been missing you too Stormy!!

Yes it does make sense, because it would be way to hard for them to try and get away with it other wise. I am not going to say it is illegal, but I will say it is a p.iss poor way of doing it.

I would prefer the slaughter plants to be USA run over foreign owners, I honestly believe things would be different. Federally run plants would have more inspectors, more jobs for private citizens etc.

The idea of foreigners making money off our horses makes me sick, but at this time there is no other choice. If the government were to open a few plants then sell the meat to them I would be happier.

Horses are dying horrendous deaths from starvation, neglect and abuse. There are three of them under my care right now. The reason they were so skinny and sick.....no money, no market.

I am not above using a scare tactic either, as long as it is based on truth.
Fully operational horse slaughter plants in the U.S. are not going to kill the beef market by even one billions of a percent. Nor will it increase the craving for horse meat by the same percentage. But if you are a pudding brain who believes everything you read, you will run to vote for anti slaughter so your drive thru menu never has a picture of Trigger in lights.

Could that be because it is missing one cranky forum member who would win any forums wooden spoon award for getting things stirred up.

Shhhhhhh....

Just before Cavel was closed down in Illinois, it was a common scene to watch the truckers pull up a block away from the slaughter plant with their loaded to the hilt with horses, DD's. Watch them unload them off the DD's, reload them onto single deck trailors and pull into the plants with their horses on the single level trailors. This is WHY I say they have little to no concern for the welfare of their load.

I know there are horses dying from those things, but I'm telling you the flat out truth here.....I took in MORE starved horses while the plants were still open here, than I have since they closed. Maybe it has something to do with the more depreciated areas or something....IDK?
