yes, i already payed. Gosh... He is big and has a full sibling even bigger and much cuter mover and is training to be a grand prix. I am concerned about how big he is, but I have been researching on how big his babies have been that are already on the ground. I have been seeing much smaller even though they arnt fully grown. Someone even bred to a quarter pony mare and have predicted the horse to grow up around around the 15s. The breeder had also bred to an arabian mare about my horses size and predicted it wont be bigger than prob 16.1-2 because of its size as a 2 year old now. Do you think 161.2 is still a little to big?

I guess it all depends on what you are hoping to get out of the breeding. Are you wanting something for dressage/arab shows or W.H.Y?? I mean, it doesn't really matter does it how big it may end up when it's full grown, or does it? As long as your vet doesn't see it to be an issue, then I wouldn't think it would be. I dunno, I've never bred anything to a stallion that large, I do things the other way around. (big mare to smaller stallion) that way I know there won't be any problems with the mare foaling out.

You should not worry about his size, mares control the size of the foal...99% of the time...they breed drafts to smaller mares all the time...Cathy

Arab/Trak crosses are WONDERFUL!!! I have two here that we had out of out TB/TRAK mare, sired by my, then, Arab stallion. Granted the two babies aren't full Trak, they have it in them.. and they really are spectacular.

As for size, it is like this. A fish will only get as big as it's bowl. In theory, that is true with foals and their dams and hopefully, your mare will be a case in point. I wouldn't be too worried about it though to tell you the truth...

I can't wait to see the foal... that is one GORGEOUS Trak!!!!

I think thats to big for any horse

I think you meant 16.2 lol.

Like someone else said mares control the size of the foal most of the time. The real growing happens after they are born.

Yep, no worries about breeding a 15.1h mare to a 17h stallion. We had an accident at our farm where the mare was 14 hh and the stud was 16.2 hh, and she had no trouble with the pregnancy and birth. The foal has gotten WAY bigger than his mom, too, but he was pretty tiny when he was born!

Thats a good post, their is a man not far from me and he has ponies and that draft horses the he breeds, its an interesting looking foal but the mares have no problem with foaling.

hmmm, good to know about all this big stallion smaller mare stuff you guys. Thanks! I've just never tried it before as I'm paranoid, so I usually go with smaller stallion/larger mare, or two the same size or just slightly larger.
