A good deed...

Ok- well I came out of class today and there were about 20 seeing eye dogs in training walking through the building.

That is the one thing I have always wanted to do... but I was afraid of giving the dog up and becoming more attached. Although, that is the way I felt when I was younger- I think I could handle it now.

So, my question to you guys is have you ever actually done anything like raising a seeing eye dog, voulenteer at a home with your dog, things like that? Would you change anything, do it differently?

I would really like to do that to! The only way I think I could actually
give up" a dog is if I knew it was going to help someone!

I knew a girl who did it through 4-H a LONG time ago. I don't really know how you would go about doing it now though. Maybe do a google or something!

And I can't really take my dog to nursing homes or anything...he's a border collie!!! Let's just say he's a "little" to high strung! lol

Our 4-H club here does it too.. All I know is that they take up WAY more time than you could ever imagine they would... I thought it would be neat too... But it's like having a newborn baby with you ALL the time, LOL!!! It does take a special person to do it...

I ahve always wanted to as well. Have talked to some people who do it, and the *** who does it here.. it was really interesting and I STILL want to do it after talkign to them.. LMAO
Yeah takes up ALOT of time.. I had never thought about it, but you think about when you ahve a puppy how much time you put into them.. well double it.. and think of having the pup with you ALL the time, and your always teaching them something

One of my friends did this more than once. I think she's had 3 puppies? She ended up getting one of them back a couple years later, they had decided not to put her in the program, so my friend adopted her. I think it's really cool, but it IS a lot of work because you always have a puppy to train. She went through Guide Dogs For The Blind. They use Labradors.

as zoomarsgirl said...I am currently training a guide dog for the blind! His name is Curtis This is a picture of me putting on his new vest about nov. of last year. If you want me to answer any questions for you I will just PM me I am going to tell you know it is going to be HARD to give him up in about 3 months! I think my dad is going to take it the hardest, he really bonded with him (even though I am the one in the family that is training him). This is my senior year of high school so when I give him up, i will be moving on to college (my mind will stay busy). But if you enjoyed raising the puppy they can bring you another puppy to raise when you give yours up to training!
