A few longing tips?

I have longed Misty in the past. She used to kick out a bit on the longe, but that is no longer a problem. I do have a few other questions though...

When circling, she does not make a nice circle...she cuts about half of the circle off, coming up short. I have tried cracking the whip and tried pushing her out with it at her side. Is there some trick to getting her to work in a full circle? (I am using a roundpen)

Today I went out and she was doing great (minus the whole cutting the circle thing) she was going very well. When I ask for the trot she moves out. Once she dropped her head and relaxed, I let her stop. We then changed direction and did the same thing; once she relaxed we stopped again. I want her to become more relaxed while moving forward. I was thinking to slowly increase the time I longe her while she is relaxed. Is this a good way to teach her to be relaxed on the longe while still paying attention and do what is asked of her?
Opinions and tips?

I work with nine horses. Well, they work me mostly. I have found that some basic ground work tends to loosen them up a great deal. Two of mine walk in, look at me, I point and off they go and lunge themselves mostly. One of my feral horses never lowers his head. He is a proud creature none the less. The ground work: yo-yo, backing, side stepping, and short lunging really makes a difference in attitude.
