What's wrong with lunging with a bit?
I always pull the lunge line through the bit, up over the poll, and attach it to the bit on the opposite side. I never knew there was anything wrong with that.

Ohh i've done that a few times.it does work!!

I usually just can't be bothered putting a bridle on!but yeah i attached it to the bit once and then the rest is in the bridle like zorse said and mostly in a rope halter

This line obviously is not attached like that though. Doing so would prevent the bit from being pulled through the mouth. Simply attaching it to the bit does not.

Then again, it also creates a very strong gag action.

Lol! Sunny actually does surprisingly have cute movement. I have no idea how..she's built like a bulldog and SO downhill, but somehow she has good suspension and hock action.

Zorse, just personal preference. I dont' say anything if people are longeing with bits. 1/2 the people do and 1/2 of them don't. There is very little I can do to change that. The horse's mouth is extrememly delicate and sensitive. Sure, you can train him to be responsive in the saddle and still longe him with the bit, but what is the use of longeing with one? There is no way you can keep a SOFT contact while longeing. The 20 ft of the line way to much weight just by itself.

ILM, sorry, we are sidetracking from your original post!

I agree about just clipping it on..I can totally see it being pulled through the horse's mouth. Unless they had bit rings on..

Which way creates a gag?
