Could be a bug bite, a bee sting or she could have kicked herself trying to shoo away flies. If it's getting smaller, I wouldn't worry about it.

I had the same thing happen 3 days ago. I checked it carefully for any puncture marks to be sure it wasn't a mesquite thorn etc. (She will roll right into the mesquites!) There was no evidence of any wound and no heat in the lump, so I decided to watch it. Turned out it must have been a bee sting as it went down completely in 2 days.

nope its most likely not a bug bite and you said you havent been riding her so its not from the girth. Its from when she was laying down she rested her body on her hoof just cause a little swelling, if it keeps happening use this on the leg that the side of the bump is on:

well...it did kinda look like that picture and there was a scabby spot on it but you couldn't see it, just feel it, we got shoes on her tuesday and the bump was from before, her abcess is gone and I rode her wednesday and she was fine, it's getting smaller little by little so I bet it's probably the combination of a bug bite and her kicking at it. thanks for all of your help!!!

My horses have been bitten a few times by black widows... got a huge lump on their bellies from it. I just kept an eye on it, gave them some bute and hosed it for a few days and they went away just fine.

A tick bite will cause a wicked bump that will scab over. I hate ticks
