A 4-ton Jockey

My husband showed this article to me last night. It is of a “vehicle” that surrounds a galloping race horse while collecting data. They might see some impressive times as these horses try to run away from it. It looks dangerous, but I’m sure they addressed that issue.

I just don't see owners and trainers with horses worth millions taking a chance with it.

Dang! It's got starting gates on it! And it comes standard with it's own oxygen mask! LOL! I wonder how the other horses on the track react to it. I'm seeing real jockeys flying left and right!

Seriously, what are they trying to accomplish? With all the flack flying about race horses breaking down I'd think that this wouldn't be a good time to bring something like this out. Sure, they can monitor the horses heart and lungs and use the data to aid in training decisions but it's not going to do anything to prevent damage to one's feet and legs. I can see trainers using something like this to push a horse harder and that's the last thing they need to be doing.

Why would they want something like that when they already use small electrodes that do the same thing? Wow! this contraption just looks dangerous to me. *shudder*

it is a step away from the treadmill data that has been collected for years now.

Here we have data that can be collected as they run on different turfs!!

You guys are only seeing the half of the possible research that something like that can accomplish....put the right imaging equipment on it, and we can see all sorts of neat things!!!

I have seen this before...it has been around for a while...If i recall, there is another similar device that you can work multiple horses with at the same time on a suspended track of some kind...the things we could learn about joint stamina alone make this thing cool
