I agree. I know we have personally found pasture for horses that friends of ours had because they did not have enough grass at home to feed them. We have spent hours helping them fix fence and lent them our tractor and brush hog to work on the rented pasture in exchange for grazing use. IMHO anyone with horses that chooses to let them get in this condition is just flat lazy and uncaring. Often with work and being creative you can find a way to provide for them. In my experience many would rather sit home and ignore the problem and will refuse all help offered. They will not sell them... they will not take any help offered. I am not sure if it is pride or stupidity but in the long run the horses are what suffer. Often it means that you have to give them away or take them to a sale and sell them for almost nothing... but it sure is better than having them starve.

Here just a few weeks ago, my supplier ran out of hay. I was in a panic. Do you know what my first thought was? "If I can't find hay in the next 24 hours, and I can't get beet pulp, who do I know that has plenty of feed and would want/take care of my horses?" I was fully prepared to give them away. It makes me sick when people say "They are my babies, I love them!" and let them stand out back and starve... It would DEVASTATE me to get rid of my horses, especially my Mini, Pumpkin... But if it was that or starvation, you can bet that they would find new homes very quickly. My horses are worth way more than money. Needless to say, I have been doing fine on the hay front, we were able to find another supplier, and although it is costing me twice as much to feed them now, disaster was averted. I have no respect for anyone that mistreats or neglects an animal or child. The bottom line is that there are ALWAYS other options. Kristina

The way some people act with their horses never ceases to amaze me. Since when was it ANYONE'S job but YOUR own to care for YOUR animals? If you can't feed them, don't have them. Simple. Its not the governments job, its not up to other people to "help" you (its nice if they do, but certainly not something to expect). No excuse in the world for horses to starve and become neglected, I hope they get convicted

Totally agree, anyone who has owned a horse knows it is not a cheap operation, you have to be prepared to deal with a crisis if it arises and if you can't then you need to find an owner for the animal who can tend to it. It is absolutely without excuse to let a horse stand on a dry lot and not provide for them and refuse to sell or give it away. Shame on her!!
