Just disgusting, they should throw the book at these guys, but usually they get away with a slap on the wrist.

I went out there yesterday to sign up as a volunteer and it's horrible. These animals have been left without food and fresh water for over six months. Plus, the stallion had access to all the mares and of the 69 horses, 30 are pregnant. Two of the pregnant mares are only yearlings. Dead horses litter the place, including foals that were born during the winter. Several horses were in a small paddock with attached barn. They are using small front loaders to remove the manure out of the barn, creating huge piles of manure that are 6 feet tall. The smell of the place will knock you off your feet.

There are old injuries that were never treated and have crippled some of the horses. It's heartbreaking. They are looking for the two men who own the place. They think one is out of the country and the other is hiding. The one is hiding is a probation officer for a nearby county.

According to the animal control officer, there are anticipated criminal charges coming from the city, county, state and even federal. Hopefully there will be some real teeth in the prosecution of these two men.

There is a web site for the ranch where these horses are located. They claim only the highest quality barrel racing horses with only the best bloodlines. Check it out at: Turn3Burn Ranch

It's a very poor website and doesn't look like it has been updated since 2002.

The county animal shelter is very overwhelmed by this sudden influx of sick horses. They are asking for everything, volunteers, food, medical supplies, and cash.

A few of my friends and I are going to organize some fund raising in the local tack and feed stores.

Disgusting.
OK.. throwing my 2 cents in here. If you are going to tell us about a situation, please at least tell us the TRUTH. Really.... can any living creature go 6 months (especially in Michigan winter) without food or water?????????? That is impossible. Shouldn't that give everyone a clue that there is deceit going on here?

These were not the conditions of the farm at all. Dead horses did NOT litter the place. The smell was not overwhelming. There was 1 injured horse (well 2 if you count the one injured by Animal Control). That is not the farm's website, that one is from out west. A pregnant yearling??? That means it got bred as a weanling. Implausible. No one was ever hiding. The out of town was the Probation Agent. The other one in "hiding" was out front in his vehicle until he was told he would go to jail by Animal Control.

You give horse rescues and the good people who do this work with legitimate causes bad names! I see there are many discussions on here about bad and crooked rescue organizations.

You also set yourself and this board up for lawsuits (printing defamatory remarks is libel).

For those of you really interested in the farm and case, please don't jump on the propoganda bandwagon created by Photochick. Check it out yourselves. There has been an ongoing trial and what you hear in that court room will shock you. It was apparently NO WHERE NEAR what the media and people like photochick would like us to believe!

Can you provide links to the trial? That would be nice.
I am curious, because I did not see it mentioned, were you there? Did you visit the rescue during the time this story broke? Are you associated with the rescue mentioned?
Just curious where your information comes from.
Photochick was kind enough to post the link to where her information was acquired.

This thread and small discussion had died and was in archives. You do understand that by replying, it brought the topic back to the front page and opened the discussion again.

I can post all the information you would like. I have been speaking with Jim and Matt for the past month. I listened to BOTH sides of the coin before I ran off and started pointing fingers. Trueth of it is, the AC is NOT doing thier job. The vet that the AC put on the stand at the trail claimed that the horses had the worst case of lice that she had ever seen. TRUETH IS this was the FIRST case of lice she had ever seen. TRUETH IS she had only handled 6 horse BEFORE she went to the ranch. TRUETH IS she doesn't know a drop in a hat about horses. YES, there are vets out there like this. There is a gal in our town who is a really good vet, but didn't know what cushings was in a horse ( her own horse) until I told her it looked to me like she had it.
You want trueth? I have pictures of Elvis, the day BEFORE the AC took over the ranch and 2 days before they decided to murder him because he had a "fractured" pelvis.
Now I will say, the grulla mare was in poor shape, and the barbed wire was a bad deal, however, I didn't see anything with any of the broodies that would have worried me. There is no news out there that mentioned Jim had just bought enough wormer to worm 200 horses 2 WEEKS before this happened. No one mentioned that 2 truck loads of hay were delivered the DAY the ac took over and were TURNED BACK. Hay that Jim had ordered several weeks before the AC were out there.

Lets also talk about this "rescue" group petitioning the AQHA, the APHA and the JC for the horses papers. WHY THE HOTDOG DOES A RESCUE GROUP NEED PAPERS... well lets see here. I guess because they know they have thier greedy little hands on some of the best bred horses in the country as well as some of the most famous stallions. Do you know who Treasured is? DO you really think that they would geld him and sell him to a "pet" home? honestly. How bout the high dollar futurity horses that are there, or the horses that just got back from the track. I have emailed and called SEVERAL rescue groups, who refuse to sell horses to be bred. They will not contribute to the problem of breeding.... THEY do not even see why this "Rescue" would want the papers. SHady is as shady does. 4 stallions with the top bloodlines in the world and a butt load of mares and babies with the top bloodlines in the world. Yea, I can see that writing on the wall.
Lets talk about the prosecution witnesses. One girl *who posts on this board* who CLAIMS she went regularly to the ranch. There was never any hay blah blah blah, then signed in a statement that SHE went out there and fed and water the horses one day.. HMMM I would like to know how this was done WHEN thier hay was kept in a locked shed and you had to get into the barn to get to the water. So not only did she tresspass, she broke into thier barns.. Yep. The AC has done a great job. OH and how about the neighbours to the ranch who are standing up for Jim and Matt

One last thing before I go, The horrible and terribly thin paint horse that the news broke the story with. Standing infront of a white wood fence. IT WAS NOT THIER HORSE.. This was not thier property and there is NOT green grass in Michigan in March.

I do have pics, I have links, I have phone numbers and I have contacts. I have researched. I am also worried for MY horses since people have begun to harrasse Jim and Matt supporters (ohhh.. feed has been gone through in locked private barns) horses that have never been turned out are mysteriously getting out through gates that have not been opened in years ( yet they stand open).... There's a writing on the wall that is far shadier then anyone cares to admit

OH and IF jim and matt lose thier horses ( and I PRAY they do not) This will set a presidence in all of America... In doing so, YOU will need to worry about your own horses...
