Yep, I would lose my mare in a heart beat if those horses are starved. Keep in mind ( for those of you up North) that these horses JUST came from a Michigan winter.

I worry about this all the time. I breed boxers, we have very well bred and nice dogs. I am worried everytime animal control comes by that they will find a way or reason to take my dogs. I have my 800.00 worth of vet recipets handy ( for thier shots, wormings and checkups ect, plus our puppy care) and keep recipets for all the dog food we buy ( we feed Pro Plan Selects so we spend $100-$150 a week in food)

I keep all the recipets on my horses also, thier vet work, feed, ect.

Those pictures you posted are from after seizure. They were taken 5/4/07. AC took the place 3/20/07.

So they are from a little over a month later. This was the first time the accused were allowed on the property.

Now we all know starved horses don't look that good in a month!

The only difference from 3/20/07 to 5/4/07 is that the horse's shedded their winter hair. The pictures you see are the condition AC found the horses in with a bit more hair.

Same point I was trying to make. AC was stating that the horses had been abandoned 6 mos before. There is no way that they could look this good after a little more than a month.

If those horses were starved for six months, they would not look like THAT after a mere month! They'd still look much worse. I don't know...you know I have known a couple people who got animal control called on them when they had an older horse that just wouldn't gain the weight. Nothing wrong with them, just older and skinny. All their other horses looked fine, and their older skinny horses looked good considering their age. I find it ridiculous that I should ever in my lifetime be accused of horse neglect just because my animal is older, going through an illness, etc etc. But, we live in a society of misinformed people who jump before they ask, and they see a skinny animal and ultimately assume that you absolutely must be starving that one (though logically it makes no sense to have a bunch of well fed, good looking horses and one completely starved). Silly things that people do...well, I do hope that should I ever have an older or ill animal that loses a bit of weight (which I have before), that the AC doesn't come knocking on my doorstep. I think I'd shove my hay down their throat.....

So is there any ETA when this trial is supposed to be over?

Well if the prosecution did their job, there wouldn't be a trial in the first place

The trial continues on Monday July 2, 2007.

The first rescue group on the property testifies for the defense.

Please keep them in your prayers!

Funny you should mention that. The AC has evidentiary pictures that show FAT horses eating from round bales of hay. Filled water tanks with the hoses still in them.

The kicker is the inside of the barn. The first day there, 50 square bales of bright green alfalfa. When they came back 2 days later, County Vet with AC this time; 30 square bales of bright green alfalfa. When they came back AGAIN with the Search Warrant 5 bales of bright green alfalfa!!!
