Auctions are not always bad places, its a good option for a lot of people. Plenty of good people are there to purchase horses for non slaughter purposes. Its all what the horse is worth and goes for. A meat buyer sees a horse in the paper for $200, doesnt matter that its not at auction, he will buy it.

Now your best option might be to get him gelded, and do some work with him. Right now he looks like a decent horse, but no one wants to buy a horse for $1200 then pay to have it gelded and trained. If you are asking $1200, get him fixed, do some work with him. He looks gorgeous, but he needs work, thats all there is too it. To be honest auction might be the best option for him. Its more likely a horse looking like that (nice confo) will go to a horse trade who will geld, train and turn him over. However you wont get anywhere near $1200 at auction for him... not unless its a production sale type auction...

Thats another thing people should consider, lots of auctions are high dollar, dont instantly assume someone is sending a horse to slaughter just because they say the word auction...

not always assume just the auctions i have been to there are alot of slaughter there readyt o buy anything htat they can make good meat out of. my two horses were going to auction my boss over paid for both of them not to see them go. i know there are some sales that you take them to and do what you said geld train the send the over to another person and those are the ones i like but none of them around me you can tell you are bidding against slaughter they get up and keep bidding to outbid you cause it is a horse they really want now my paint was bought for 6 hundred from a slaughter house my draft was paid 650 away from slaughter and a couple others my boss and i saved while i was working for him so i know how they work and all my draft and paint need was fattened up trained alil and then rode or showed and that is what i did nothing wrong with them other them weight and abuse nothing that alittle spoling and love can't get you throw
