| Senior Member+ | 30 Day Expectations? I'm curious what you all would expect from 30 days of training. Assuming that the horse is nothing more than halter broke, how much would you expect them to learn in the course of a month? -Bella ![]()

Depending on the horse, but if it went with NO ground work done (longing, long lining, sacking out, etc) it could range from 2 weeks of riding (walk, trot, whoa, direct rein and maybe starting to lope) to ready to start riding.

Does depend on the horse My 3 year old mare went out with basic ground work. She had been handled a lot, saddled, bridles. worked with in hand. At the trainer in the first month (she stayed for 4 months) she learned to longe, walk and trot pretty consistently undersaddle. Basic steering was covered. They did *a tiny bit* of canter, bu tha was pretty much just and emerging skill. That being said, they trainer said that she learned that much because there were no real set backs in the first 30 days. She had no regression in this time period, which I guess is pretty unusual.

I would expect the horse to be able to lunge with the saddle on...starting to get a hang of the bridle...long lining, tie, good at trailer, farrier (if not before, definitely now). Basically all the ground work is done. if all was going well even a little walk trot under saddle. If the horse was being cantered on I would be concerned on the quality of the other building blocks. Again that's just me...after 90 days I would expect a nice walk, trot, canter with good transitions. Not perfect but good and ready for me to ride.
