| Senior Member+ | 3 months of new barefoot trimmer
Before: After: This is Trav's left front foot, just for comparison. The first pics are approximately 4 months ago. The new trimmer has worked on him 3 times. What do you think? |

Honestly.... I don't see a big difference. Toe still looks too long to me, is flared, and heels seem high. Does Trav have a "clubby" right front? Looks completely different than the left.

Looking better - the toe stillneeds to be backed up - did this horse have laminitis? I do see some white line stretching and a definite dish that occured about 6 months ago (fromt he first picture). Looks like the bars are being trimmed down and the frogs are neat. The foot doesn't look as contracted anymore - but it can still come down at the heel.

I'm afraid I'm not seeing much of a difference either. In fact, it looks like the whole foot is getting longer It's nearly impossible to see what's reality in these solar shots. They need to be taken perpendiculat to the sole so that heel height/length and toe length aren't distored by the angle.

No laminitis. The farrier is working on the flaring and tried to get his breakover back a bit (I think that's what he said) but couldn't take anymore off without going into live sole. Here's a before pic of his right foot. The last farrier kept his toes a bit shorter but he had/has flares on the sides of this one. |

May I ask what you think? Have you noticed a difference in his gaits, etc. I am just not qualified to comment on the pictures, but I would guess that you already have an opinion. I know I did when I changed farriers. I have never been happier with my change. I have a lot to learn about hoof care and confirmation, but I know my horses and that is why I say this. It was pretty obvious to me they were more comfortable. Just wondering if you have any comments in this regard?

Left front looks very upright to me with high heels and so different from the right front. Has there always been a disparity?

There has been since the farrier before this one. One thing I should mention is that 3 months ago Trav got a puncture wound in his right heel, it got all infected and gross, and the new farrier wasn't able to bring his right heel down because of that the first time he trimmed, so his right is still one trim behind his left. Additionally his right heel was a bit contracted, which is slowly improving also. To be honest, I took these pics ona whim this evening and thought it would be nice to compare to the old pics. I thought I'd see more changes than I do. As for his gaits, they immediately improved after the first trim by the new guy. I don't believe this last trim did anything to improve his gaits though. He feels a bit more pacey to me than he did before this trim. |

I'm with #WD and JB. All I see is that the heels of the LF have been lowered a bit, but nothing has been done to address the toe. In fact, the lateral coronary band on the left front appears jammed in the 'after' photo where it did not appear so in the 'before' photo. There are some (obvious to me) problems with the right front too, and if your current farrier is leaving that much heel on that foot, then something is wrong. Quote:
