I went to the stable today and talked to the owner about which horse I will have lessons on. Basically there are 3 to choose from. I can lease either one of them later on. He chose one for me to groom today and seems to think that one would be best to start on. He is a 8 yrs. old light gray Quarterhorse/Thouroughbred Gelding. Quite calm, although he did give me a bit trouble getting him off the pasture, guess he was lazy...lol. All 3 need more exercise and need to loose some weight. Well, here is "Nick"... Next one is a 5 year old dark-bay reg. Quarterhorse mare. Supposed to be a very good horse, def. needs to loose some weight, too... Here is "Prissy" : And this is the last one. He is a 6 year old Pain Gelding. He is quite a bit taller then the other two. I am drawn to him, guess I like paints...lol. The owner said he is really good, but one of the ladys said she rode him once and he was a bit stubborn. After a few lessons on "Nick" I sure would like to try this one out, although he is so tall, its a bit intimidating... Here is "Sport"... Well, let me know your thoughts, ideas and critique away... thanks |

I would try the Paint out...that lady who said what she did might not want him to be leased and she lose the chance to ride him...besides stubbon would not bother me since even the best horse has their ocassional stubborn moments. LOL! Since the owner thinks the first one would be suitable for you then you should give that horse a try and see how you and him get along. Still if you are attracted to the Paint discuss him with your instructor and if possible give him a try too! You will either like him or not and if not you still have the first one. If it was me I would want to test ride all three in a sort of reverse order..saving the one I liked best for last... wink

The 3 you're interested don't need to lose weight, they are good the way they are, just need some muscling. I too like the paint best!

Yup, agree with Sandra, I would ride all 3 of them, seeing which one you feel the most comfortable on. They are all great looking horses, but beauty doesn't make for a good horse. wink

I do like all of them but I have a soft spot for the paint too. None of them need to lose weight, they just need to convert some fat into muscle. All three are very nice though

Well if you havent ridden much, start out on a horse that is a little lazy, one that will go slow for you to learn on. You can always, bump up to a higher level of lerning lesson horse. Dont take a horse that has too much spunk, unless you have been riding, and would know how to handle him/her. If I where taking lessons on these horses, I wouldnt go by which one I like the best(for looks or anything like that) But which one will fit you the best. Your trainer will know if you need to move on to another horse. Best of luck! |
