Thanks! We love the grulla mare. She's got so much speed and agility. Still haven't climbed on her, but we may this weekend some time. I need to go get new photos of Dallas (was Barbie) this week if I can. Shoot, I need to get more photos of Holly too.

I just got devistating news from Dallas's owner. Her mother's uterus ripped so bad that she's no longer breedable. Im just devistated for Laurie. I loved that mare sooo much. Poor Gracie. Im just so thrilled that she at least got a Dun and a filly. Really wish she would have gotten Champagne with it

Wow, I don't remember reading that the delivery was difficult. That is sad, but she didn't lose the mare to that is good.

No, the delivery wasn't difficult. She was shoulder locked, but got up, laid back down on the other side and got her repositioned and popped Dallas out. Im just so upset right now. That mare was one of the SWEETEST horses you'd ever ask for. And she's such a good mother to Dallas. Man that's such a bummer. Of course the one day I wear eye liner and mascara is the one day Im in tears.

But yes... she does still have them both. That's part of breeding. Never know what's going to happen.

Wow, that's horrible. It's a big reminder of the risks we take when we breed our mares.

Yep it is. Even if a birth goes "normal" other issues may still be hidden, like Annie with Gingersnap or Dallas with Laurie.

I am so thankful that I can count on 1 hand the times we've had things go wrong with horses in our care. 1st was a mare that was ultra sounded as having twins, but the vet wasn't sure if she read them right, but didn't bother to check with another Vet to confirm or deny that... maiden mare and one foal was DOA. Fortunately, the mare was longer backed and gave her plenty of room for the two foals. Rufus survived and ended up at 15 hands. 2nd was a mare that tossed her foal about 3 weeks before her due date. She ripped some due to it being stillborn. We didn't want to breed her back, but her owners did. We waited and short cycled her once she was healed up.

And our first mare had a lethal before we bought her. She did pine for it for a while, but got over its loss quite quickly, thanks to instincts kicking in and mother nature taking its course.

Ahhhh Julie that is so heartbreaking! I am glad the owners did get a filly to carry on with her mommas temperment and gene pool! But darn it all what a huge bummer!

Peyton and Annie are sending you a big slobbery kiss and a horsey hug!!!!
