Talking 2003 Arabian Filly *New Pictures*

I know this is not the best picture, but opinions on this filly are very much desired.

She has some lovely, older bloodlines and is grand-daughter of one of my most favorite Arabian stallions, whose bloodlines are very hard to get a hold of, especially SCIDS-clear as the stallion himself was a SCIDS carrier (back in the days before they had tests). Her price is in my range, which is rare for a filly so I am definitely interested, but I wanted some thoughts anyway to make sure I am not looking through rose-tinted glasses since she has such an awesome (to me) pedigree.

Thanks for any help!

New pictures in Post #13!

That picture sure isn't doing her any favors.

I'm afraid to judge her neck because it's being held up in a bad way, and her hip is turned away from the camera at a bad angle. Interesting color and a nice head! I'd love to see more/better pictures of her if you can get them! She does seem to have nice, straight legs.

What stallion are you talking about?

I'm not usually one for Arabs, but she's very pretty. Her confo doesn't look bad to me although she does look like she's standing under in the front. It could just be the way she is standing. As for the bloodlines, I know nothing so I can't help you there. But I think she's worth looking into. Good luck!

I think I am going to email and ask for some additional pictures.

I know, I am loving her color! She has that unusual "flaxen" coloring that some Arabians have, where bays have lighter hair in their manes and tails.

It's hard to tell from this photo (I look forward to more) But I think her head is a little large for her body. It is very correct and perhaps she will grow into it more...

Hello, the pics aren't that great. Her topline is just okay and I am not crazy about her croup. She doesn't have much of a dish and there is something funny about her neck. IT could be b/c she is young and needs to grow into herself

What are the bloodlines. Looks exactly like a Polish daughter I just sold minus the front socks. IMO if a mare is Polish bloodlines mean alot! Very pretty overall! Looking forward to more info!

She looks like a tiny little thing, but I think she has potential. Being small is not a fault, I am just noticing. I like her hind end a lot, but her entire position in this picture makes her look u necked and odd. A better picture would be needed for a better critique

Remeber I am just giving my honest opinion...and that YOU are the one who has to be satisfied and happy with the horse in the end....so my opinion does not mean or is worth anything.....

Just going by the photo you posted....and Using my copy of "Arabian Horse Type: A Guide for Judging.....
And remembering that the horses in these paintings are considered the "Ideal Arabian Type" and considered the breed's standard of perfection:
.

Going by my first impression....I do not find this mare that well proportioned and she is really lacking in the "type" department.

"The Arabian horse carries itself with a natural pride and elegance, immediately impressing the observer with it's alert attitude and awareness of its surroundings, which it seems to view with a regal air."

Now working from front to back....

The head does have a nice triangular shape with a fine muzzle. The face is slightly dished below the eyes, the cheekbones sharply cut. The eye appears large, round and well placed. She seems to have good deep jaws.
Arabian Mares do have ears that tend to be a bit longer than those of a stallion, but her's appear to not be too large for her size head.

I do have a big problem with her neck.
It is not set on high. The attachment to the chest should be above the point of her shoulder. It does not appear to be long, arched, set on high and running back smoothly into her withers.
Her neck does not make a slight angle at the top of the crest and from that point run in a gentle curve to the head. The windpipe should enter between the jaw in the same way.
She lacks, well she does not appear to have, what Arabian people call "mitbah"....(The mitbah is a term used to express the manner in which the head is set onto the neck, and especially refers to the form of the windpipe, and the manner in which the throat enters or runs in between the jaws, where it should have a slight curve. This permits a graceful and easy carriage of the head.)
The Arabian Horse must have a large trachea (windpipe). While the throatlatch should be clean, it must be of sufficient depth and width to accommodate a large windpipe and a strong muscular and vertebral attachment to the head. The angle of the head-neck attachment should be open and curved. This mare does not have it.

I do not care all that much for the mares shoulder, maybe it is because of her neck...or the way she is standing (but I don't really think so.) I do not find it all that attractive and it does not appear to be long, well sloped, deep and broad at the base and powerful.

Her hips are what I consider another big problem area.
Propulsion comes from the hindquarters which should be well muscled.
The breed standard call for a COMPARATIVELY horizontal croup, not a level croup. A more nearly horizontal croup is to be preferred over that which is markedly sloped. An upward tilting croup is not desirable. I do not find her hindquarters well muscled at all and they do have a LOT of slope!
Also, even in Arabians the muscling of the gaskins should be pronounced, without approaching that expected of the Quarter Horse.

The tail should be attached high (level or almost level with the croup) and not appear set below the croup into the buttocks.

Speaking only for myself, this mare would not be anything that I would be interested in for showing or breeding. She does not have enough correct breed conformation and also importantly "type" not matter what her bloodlines.

I don't know enough about arabians to give a fair critique, I DO agree that this picture isn't flattering. Get some additional pictures and take a good look...go see her if you are really interested. If you don't want her for breeding, then who CARES if she isn't typey? If you are looking for a breeding mare, then I agree with Sandra1, that you should look for something that closer fits the breed standard and has more correct conformation.

The bottom line is do YOU like her?
