20 to old for jumping?

Hey guys,
I have a 20 year old QH that used to jump and then I bought him a year and a half ago and haven't jumped him at all but now one of my daughters friends is going to use him for pony club and jump him once a week at no more then 2'3" and I was wondering what people thought. He is great condition and he gets a joint supplement and flax. Is there a cut of or anything or just what they look like? Thanks a bunch for any input. I am just a little nervous because when the warm weather hits I ride him at least 4 times a week. Mostly trail riding with a lesson a week.

If he is fit and healthy I see no reason why he can't do the low jumps. Old Minty who is 35 still goes over an occassional low jump with my son. My 25 yo horse still goes over what I point him at but trust me, they are never high.

Just keep an eye on him, if he seems to be not coping just end the session.

i agree, if there is no pain when being jumped and he seems to enjoy it then why not?

No problem jumping, as long as he is ealthy. Make sure the person jumping him is with doing this with a trained proffesional, so they can always be there in case something needs to be stopped. I had a 25 y/o who went to shows until the day he died, and he was a CHAMPION.

Thanks you guys. That sets my mind at ease. I don't want anything to happen to him and he definitely likes it. My daughter has jumped him in a lesson and I just took my first jumping lesson this week on him (very low stuff ) and you can tell he gets a thrill. The last owner said she used to jump him over all kinds of stuff. Thanks again.

If the horse is happy to jump I'm sure it would be fine, me last horse jumped until he was about 23.

If horses who were over twenty couldn't jump then most of the schoolies in my barn would not be there! Yep, its perfectly fine for a 20 year old to be jumping, especially if it is only once a week.

I would keep him low - but if he is fit then he should be fine.

I have a mare that's 26 and still packs kids around and jumps up to 3ft. She's a solid little QH. Love her to death =)
