OK, I do hope that you find him a perfect home and I appreciate you being truthful

Thank you so much. I really wish that I could tell you that I was sure, but I have to protect people, especially children, and honesty is the best policy.

Well if you do decide to go with him I know a trainer that helped me with my first horse that is outside of Burnsville, NC (about 45 minutes from Asheville) I'm completely blanking on the town, but his name is Fred Allen. He is the old style natural horsemanship trainer (his hero that he had done several clinics with was Tom Dorrance). Susy was pretty basic, but he let me help him with some of his others, and one was a severely abused bay pinto. He is really patient and teaches some nice ground exercises that build confidence and respect. One of the horses he had there had been loaded in a trailer that wasn't hitched to the truck and the trailer rolled down the mountain and wrecked. He took the horse and did 30 days of training (can't remember how they got him there, just that it took lots of drugs, lol). By the end the horse was walk trot cantering and loading right up, point the horse, swing the lead rope and click and the horse would walk in. Wife came and picked him up, had no problems. Husband called and was upset because the horse would load for his wife and 8 year old son, but if he was there it wouldn't go near the trailer...Fred laughed and said, I told you the horse was smart! Anyway, his prices weren't bad and he was really good about working with the owner to show them how to do it. He has an indoor too so he can train in all weather. I think 30 days was $600 which included board and 5 days of working the horse for between 20 minutes and 2 hours depending on what he was doing. This was his email back in 2003, don't know if its still the same. MMEAllen@aol.com |

I actually live in Burnsville but have never heard of him. I really can not afford $600 anyway or I would have easily found the right pony by now with that money - lol. Thanks though I do appreciate the thought and will remember the name

Really? We were living in burnsville back in 99 then moved back here when the Johnson/evenrude plant closed down and my dad lost his job. Fred was in Hendersonville (I think). Its been so long he may not even live there anymore. I know he used to travel some doing clinics.

wow if I had that money *I* would send him there. He sounds amazing. I could start him from the ground, and have gotten him lunging well, but I just don't have the time or means anymore. I love him to death and want him to go somewhere who will love him the same.

Have you checked into any of the rescues. I'm not even sure if there are any in your area. I know so many of them are overloaded now, but it may be worth a try as a last resort. They're both so cute. I have my fingers crossed for them.

I have actually been looking into rescues for him, because that is somewhere i know that he would be in good hands with someone else that can handle him.

I wouldn't put much faith in rescues. I would do some DEEP digging before handing him over to one. What I don't like about some of them is they are so overcrowded that they may not have the funds to feed the horses and your little guy might get lost in the sea of ''fixer-uppers.'' Careful, careful!
