Yes, I would say that he is something special!
He has already proven himself as a sire...a very successful sire!

its not really that surprising. There are a lot of higher end sales for different markets of horses. Like the colored horses have the colors of the sun sale, which is a huge production. The racing QH's have a sale in Rio Dosa I believe (spelling might be wrong). The babies there sell for $20k a piece if they are at all good. Cedar Ridge is very high end so putting him in a sale probably got more than what they wanted for him.

This reminds me of a day at the Pheonix auction. Border Patrol brought in a 2 year old solid black stud. Apparently the owner had been smuggling a horse trailer full of drugs with the horse and when pulled over had made a run for it and gotten away. The horse was left in the care of border patrol and after 30 days they took him to auction. They had no papers, and although he was decent looking without papers what good is a stud? He sold for $10,000 if I am not mistaken. You know someone had papers or access to papers on him. It was funny, the next horse to come in was a little old grey and the anouncer started out "So this horse was left in a trailer with drugs while his owner made a run for the border, lets start the bidding at $4000".

Ceder ridge didnt own him (he was a commision or whatever you call it lol) and his owners had just put a rather large add out on him prior to announcing him going through the sale. It does seem odd, kinda like it was to publicize the auction.

ETA I just noticed you didnt indicate ceder ridge owned him...lol I read your last line wrong!

What farm bought him? And where is he moving too? That's rediculous!!

They must expect to make a lot of money from him.......to get something back for spending that much on his purchase price.

What is his stud fee? I can't even imagine.

He is GORGEOUS GORGEOUS though. I could only dream of something that beautiful.

yeah most sales have only a few of their own horses and lots of commissions. But Cedar Ridge overall is high end so a sale there would be a lot of expensive horses. The add was likely to draw attention back to him and to publicize the sale because he was in the sale and not just for the sale itself. I would love to go to a sale like that. Could never afford a horse but it would be wonderful to see. I went to a ranch horse sale in NM and have been to one of the colors of the sun. One of the local ranches has a production sale and they really clean up their facilites. They bring in new sand wood chips etc for the pens and arena. They decorate and clean everything and they sell their babies in that sale but about 80% of the horses are commissions. We also had a huuuge paint sale here when a man was cleaning out his paint stock. He sold one stallion for $15k to someone who lives overseas and had several very high end paints at the sale. He had one foal that was the only registered paint colt of a very famous stallion. Can't remember the stallions name off the top of my head...It was hard to tell it was a paint because the grey and white were so close to the same but it was a rare find. A sale is a good way to let lots of people in on the selling of a big horse. So in this case they can bid until the can't afford it lol. Sometimes it works out, othertimes it doesn't but then the owner can pass out the horse and keep it if he wants.
