That's so sad. I don't care if he was a human encylclopedia on Arabs, he underfed and neglected his horses, there is absolutly no excuse for that in my book. Why didn't he sell them? or ask someone for help if he was having trouble? people that love their animals would never let them suffer in manure stuffed barns and not feed them, that just makes me sick. I hope at least some of those horses can recover from this

I agree to, and what he DID was a terrible deed, I am not saying because he was an encyclopeia on arabs thats its any different, I just mentioned that to explain why I never thought he would do it. No animal deserves to be treated like that, and I will never be able to look at him again.

This is the post I put on my blog on my site:

SPCA Siezure NE of Edmonton

Although they have rare Polish and Egyptian Arabian bloodlines, something went wrong somewhere over the last 3 years.

A farmer located North East of Edmonton has had his once prized Arabian herd siezed by the ASPCA. It has been reported by the ASPCA that 29 horses were found dead. Local news stations are reporting that numerous chickens, ducks and rabbits were also found dead.

Tonight, one of the ASPCA officers was saying that there were yearlings in terrible health. A lady, local to that area, went on camera and said that she reported this farm back in 2005 because there were eagles feeding on dead horses. At that time, local news stations report that he was charged and fined for that incident.

Local haulers have commented in a local daily newspaper as saying that the conditions were horrible. No hay or water.

What went so wrong to a one of a kind herd? I am not going to speculate on what happened, nor am I going assume anything. I haven't talked to the farmer. With them being exposed like this, I don't expect them to answer any phones, faxes, emails or any other form of communication for the next while. I am sure with all the news camera's and local newspapers sitting at their gate waiting for a comment, they'll be cautious with their public appearances.

From what I understand, they have been raising Arabians for 25 years. They have rare Polish and Egyptian bloodlines that are to die for. I received an email from a friend who has one of his mares they purchase a while ago. She stated that she is a dream horse. Quiet disposition, easy to work with and has thrown beautiful foals.

The ASPCA has removed 100 head and has placed them at the feedlot of Nilsson Brothers in Clyde. They are getting free choice hay and fresh water daily. They have a wind break for shelter. They will be auctioned on Thursday March 13, 2008 at 1PM. Nilsson Brothers will dedicated one of 2 rings at this sale specially for these horses. The regular Thursday cattle sale will proceed in the other ring pending how many head they have. I presume that once word get's out about this, there could possible be standing room only, if people can get the time off work.

The horses that were featured on the local news stations are ribby, hippy, have rain rot, cracked and curled up hooves. Some are quiet and come up to you for scratches, some come up to you but are shy to touch. There are all colors: bays, blacks, greys, whites, browns. There are weanlings that might possible be stunted from lack of nutrition, yearlings and I presume bred mares. Some showed halter marks on their faces, some didn't. They look to have thick, ruff winter coats which hides their true condition. A person will only know once you touch them. One lady who went to see them said that the ones that she felt, had no flesh on their ribs. These horses will take time and money to rehabilitate. And most of all, lots of TLC.

If you are wanting more information about this siezure, please contact me.

Hmmm so sad.I am sorry but...it was and is a very selfish act. If he was in trouble (being supposedly knowledgable) he should have began selling the animals. I am not very forgiving towards ppl like that. I assume inbreeding was the norm for I assume that none of the horses where seperated before they matured anough to breed. When there are other animals also suffering the same fate I cannot excuse this person. I will let my animal go to a suitable home before I would ever think of allowing it to die from disease and starvation. Selfish, ignorant thing to allow happen. . To bad i'm to poor and to far away. Other wise I would have liked to possibly purchase one.

Very sad.

I just learned of this, and am quite shocked. Our hay prices are good and the horse market is not terrible.

I will be emailing the link to all my horse friends, althoughthey are all stock horse people maybe some will know of people looking for arabs.

I posted this on my Arab board as well but if anyone is planning on going to this auction please let me know (please pm me). I am too far to attend but will help $ to sponsor a horse. I can't pay a whole lot but may be able to do like $100/month towards feed/board care. I also could take the horse in later spring/summer if someone has temporary space but does not want to take a horse permanently or is limited in space.

It sounds like papers WILL NOT be available on these horses but personally I don't care. I don't want to see any of these horses end up going to the meat man, they have been through enough already.

That's just it isn't it? Brad and I saw this on the news last night, and we were both like "WHAT?"! Our hay prices are good, the horse market is not bad right now...I just don't get it.

They showed some of the horses on the news last night, they looked pretty rough Poor things. Hopefully the news coverage is promoting them enough that a lot of people will turn up at the auction and buy them.

I wish we could take on another horse right now or I would buy one, but financially we just can't
