Hi

After 31 years of riding other peoples horse I finally got my first horse a month ago. He was not exactly the horse I dreamed about, but for some reason he was the one I had to have. Cheif is what one might call a project. When I got him he was 250/300 lbs under weight with a big hay belly. He had no shine what so ever. He has whip scars are 2 inches wide.
Everyone said I was crazy, I needed to get rid of him, but I have decided to stick it out with him. He is the sweetest horse you could ever hope to come across. The vet says by the end of summer he should be in pretty much perfect health at which point I am going to have him retrained. Until then I am just doing some light ground work with him and giving him lots of love.
I had no idea how much I had to learn and am grateful to have found such a great board. I look forward to getting to know you all.

Hi Bexs! I am in NC too.....what part of the state are you in? I'm in Hickory.
Congratulations on your new horse, that is so sweet that you are giving him a loving home. Who were his previous owners? That is so horrible that someone would whip a horse so hard as to leave scars. I can't imagine.
Have any pictures? Here's my little guy, I am a first time horse owner also. He's 11 months old now.web page

Hi Cheryl
I'm in Thomasville. We just moved down here from Greensboro 2 monthes ago. It has been a crazy couple of months. I got cheif from a guy in Denton. I was actually there to look at a different horse, but ended up taking Chief. The guy I got him from is what I'd call a horse trader. He didn't do the damage, but he didn't do anything to help the horse get healthy either. He left him in the pasture for a year with no grain. He would tell he got fed regularly, but the vet would swear different. If you want to know the guys name so you can stay away I'd be happy to give it to you privately, but I don't want to post it here. bexs390@hotmail.com
No pics on line yet. Since we moved I haven't gotten my PC hooked up yet. I'm using hubby's old laptop so I haven't been able download them. I can wait to put up before and progress pictures of him.
Your's is so cute!! He's going to be a real beauty!!

Hey, more NC buddies [Big Grin] I'm from NC too, Wake Forest, about 20 miles northeast of Raleigh. Cheif sounds great. Projects are always fun [Wink]
