I started riding when I was 7. Jumping and dressage. I have been out of it for a long time. Thanks to my 8 yr old daughter I am now back into it and am on my way to buy a horse on Saturday. He is out of state I called a vet had hime vet checked and x-rayed everything is clean. I am going on Sat. to ride him for the first time. I do not have anyone(who know about horses),to go with me. If I like him I can take him on a two week trial. Is this a misake to not take someone along even though he checked clean?

Hey, it is like riding a bike...it should all come back to you. If he vetted clean by a reputable vet....then the next part is if YOU like him.

Good Luck! How exciting!

i would take someone with you because if they are knolageable then they could spot something to do with the horse being handled or ridden, and the vet does not specalise in these areas. TAKE SOMEONE WITH YOU you wouldn't want to end up with a dangerous or problem horse.

HORSES ROCK MY WORLD!

My nails are always dirty, my boots are muddy too. There's shavings in my socks, and horse poo on my shoe. My jods are always dirty and my t-shirt's never white, how do i get so dirty when my horse is shining bright?

Before you go, have in mind some things or qualifications this horse must meet. When you go and look at him/her then decide if it meets those qualities and if not, can you live with it. Check to make sure that the obviously hasn't been ridden down earlier. You will know if it is right for you. Plus, you get a two week trial and that will tell you alot! GOOD LUCK!

I agree with the instinct thing. I just returned an hour ago from looking at a horse with a friend who is horse shopping. I always go with her and yet I never add anyting to help her decide. Today was the neatest thing. I saw the vibes come off her that she didn't know that she was sending. She disliked and didn't trust this horse the second that she mounted. She trotted and walked, but felt something. She knew on instinct by what she felt under her that there was something sneaky about this mare. "2200.00 dollars and bomb proof" where what we were told- my butt! She dismounted and asked the owner, "would you lope her" The owner did and within five minutes, the horse threw her clean off her back. Not once, but attempted it again and again. She didn't need anyone to tell her to look deeply, she felt it and suspected even through the deception of those who were trying to sell her. Go with your instincts-they are a sure thing.

Well if you ride the horse and really like him, then you could always bring him back home for a two week trial. Once he's at your barn for the trial you could have a person at your barn, or someone near you who knows about horses tell you what they think of him.

well i bought the horse. I did bring someone with me who raises and shows rocky mountain horses. she was a great help and comfort to have with me. I do get him on a two week trial and I already have a trainer and instructor who is going to help me. I am also going to have a farrier look at his feet. I was told they can tell a lot more about feet and legs than vets can. the lady i bought him from is bringing him to me, i am not exactly sure when yet because sadly her husband just passed away. she wants to bring him up this weekend, but i told her to take her time and bring him when she is ready.
thanks for the help [Cute Kiss]

I won't be getting him this weekend. She's talking sometime next week. It's getting really hard waiting especially since he's already paid for and I know he's standing out in the pasture all day looking like who knows what. My husband wants to just go get him for me, but I don't have a trailer or any kind of shipping equipment. Can you rent all that stuff? I'm getting really antsy here! [Frown] [Frown]

You may be able to rent a trailer, or go to a nearby bording facility and see if some one wants to make some money and help you pick him up.
Good lick getting him, and CONGRATS on getting back into horses.

I am finally getting my horse tomarrow! I don't think I could wait any longer. 17yrs is long enough! She told me he looks nasty because she has not had time for him lately. Oh well I can fix that, no problem. Just as long as he is happpy and healty. [Applaud]

I am glad to hear things are working out well.
I bet he will think he has gone to horse heaven.
I wish the world was full of GOOD horse owners.

thanks that was a really nice thing to say [Blushing] When I was younger I used to spend hours just grooming and hand walking my tb around to munch grass. It was the best thing in life! [Wink]

Wow - you paid for him without taking posession - you are one trusting lady! I do hope the horse you paid for shows up safe and sound. PLEASE make sure that it IS the horse you have paid for - you would'nt be the first person to take possession of a dopleganger that is not as great as the "purchased" horse. Good luck!

She wouldn't have it any other way. This is her business. She buys horses, mostly from the track, trains them and sells them. Unfortunately she did not have a lot of time for training her latest horses because her husband became sick and passed away a week ago. But yes I am too trusting and it has gotten me in trouble more than once. Pretty sad that you can't trust people. Oh, I do have him on a 2 week trial basis, it is written in the contract.
thank you for your concern. He is on his way today so I will let you know. [Woot!]

Well I did finally get my horse. The woman got lost 4 or 5 times because she wouldn't LISTEN to my directions. Then she told me it was my fault, I gave her bad directions. It was a straight shot down 1 highway! I ended up paying her an extra $50 by the time she totaled the mileage. Oh well he's here now. I'm happy and he seems happy. Within minutes of each grooming and he is back in his stall he rolls! [Woot!]
