A few times in the past few nights we've heard a sound like a wild pig in our backyard. We always hear really early in the morning before the sun is up. We heard it this morning. Our house is set back on a private lane in the woods with only one other house, yet we live on the edge of a busy road, on the edge of our subdivision, next to a large empty field surrounded by woods. Any clue what this noise could be? We went out on our back deck this morning, which extends partially into the woods, and used a flashlight but couldn't see anything. Any ideas? I thought maybe a coyote (there's a few in the field next to us) but do they make grunting, squealing sounds like that?

coyotes do not make squeeling noices like a pig... I would say it was prob a wild boar....

[Smile] WOW... freaky. Go get a spotlight and sit on your deck and watch for it... way cool! Does it bother anything? Just wondering?

No, it might frighten some of the dear but that's all. And probably some of the stray cats. But I've never heard of a wild boar in south eastern Ohio. [Confused] Thanks!

Could it be a badger? They make piggy noises. They look cute, but boy are they bad tempered. Same as wild boar - steer clear!

You know you are a horse person when...
...You pull change from your pocket , and hay falls out.
...you yell at the kids, and the horse's name pops out.
...you actually get to a point where flies don't bother you so much.
