i do love palominos.
i had to ride a pony last week for a bit. He was about 14.2hh, so much easier to get on!
REally anything above 15hh is harder for me to get on! Ponies are so funny! THey really feel speedy round their corners and jumps always feel bigger to me. Ponies seem to like cuddles better but they can still trail you off your feet!lol.
I love them all though at the end of the day

I was sad that there was no buckskin! I just put in dun instead.

really? In 4-H we were always taught that duns had to have a stripe down their back. My buckskin didn't, so on her papers it said buckskin.

really? Here there's way more buckskins than duns. Lots of people breed for buckskins. Here's a pic of my old mare that was a buckskin. I think that there is a buckskin registry in the states as well...

Your right cowgurly, there is a buckskin registry in the states. Good looking mare by the way. This is a pic of my buckskin mare (some of yall have seen the pic before when I asked for help on her bloodlines). She is considered a buckskin b/c she has black points but no dorsal stripe. Its the most stupid thing though... she is registered as a bay but you can see from the pic she is very much buckskin. The only thing we can figure is that she was darker as a baby when she was registered and then lightened up when she shed of her baby hair.

see they would still be dun for us. No distinctio n between that and buckskin, but then a lot of what you call Duns we would describe as chestnut with dorsal stripe or bay with dorsal stripe etc. Lou

Ever heard a dun's dorsal stripe called an "eel stripe?" I hadn't, until a new book I just bought called it that. It didn't even mention the word "dun" in the coloring section. Very strange, I had never heard of that term. I had always heard it called a dorsal stripe.
Gage is a red dun with an "eel stripe (???)" down his cute little back. I don't think you can see it in any of my pictures though... ..HEY A NEW EXCUSE TO TAKE MORE PICTURES TONIGHT! YIPPEEE!

Reno is a dun (Bay dun). Now that she's shedding out, it's looking like she has more dun factors than just the dorsal stripe.

see we would still call Gage a red roan with dorsal stripe (yep or eel stripe ) and there's no way Reno would be anything other than bay unless her coat changes dramatically when she sheds out. Just goes to show the differences across the pond - we dont use the term sorrel either, we have chestnuts and flaxen chestnuts. Lou

i would love to have a paint. I didn't see Paint listed in the colors so i picked "other"...sorry! i don't know if there's another term for "Paint" and i just don't know about it or what.....
Coco is 15.3 hh and while that is tall enough for me to ride without looking silly (i'm 5'10" - i need a good sized horse to ride so that i don't look funny on top of her or anything), i would love to have a horse over 16 hh.
Coco is the most awesome horse anyone could ask for though!!

Odd that you Brits don't have the term Buckskin. I have always wondered what color Sunny was. She's got a black mane, but a dun colored tail. I can't tell if she has a dorsal stripe since her blanket coveres it..and she has 4 white knee-high stockings so I can't tell if her legs are black either. How can I tell if she's dun or buckskin?!
BTW this siggy cracked me up: Due to recent budget cuts, the light at the end of the tunnel has been turned off. ![[Hah]](graemlins/hah.gif) [ May 17, 2004, 11:06 PM: Message edited by: zorse ]
