Hi, ok lots of random things. These are of the storm the other day, I thought it was really cool looking, and Kelly said I should take a picture. So I took .... several haha.

lol you can see some jumps in the wee corner lol.

Thought this was kind of cute...

I cleaned up the barn the other day, and I'm proud of my work so I'm showing it off. Plus, you can see where Kayle lives!

Does anyone know what kind of snake this is? I don't.

Finally, April, my BorderX wearing a hat. Hehehe...

It is hard to tell from that photo but if you have a pond or large creek around it could be a Water Moccasin...but then again the snake looks like a KING Snake...
King Snakes are great rat eaters and they eat other snakes, poisonous ones too...most welcomed around any barn we are at! [Big Grin]

[Eek!] That first photo of the storm looks like a Wall cloud formation and if you lived here you would be watching for and hoping not to see, the tail of a tornado to be coming out of the bottom of it! [Eek!]

LOL, on your adventures with steve, eh?

rosie's SO cute! haha yeah her ears are enormous...maybe i could get them pinned? hehe.

sandra - yeah it was REALLY still out, too. freaked us out pretty bad. then all of a sudden this HUGE blast of cold air came out of nowhere....i think there were tornado watches in effect, as well. [Eek!] i'm deathly afraid of tornados...
the snake...found it on the side of the road, but kelly and i killed one that looked like it at the barn the other day - it was swimming in the pond. think it was a Moc?

Those pictures of the storm clouds are way cool.

The snake looks like a water moc... If the inside of it's mouth was white than it is a water moc. They are extremely poisionous and will cause necrosis (like if bitten on the finger, the finger will turn black and may fall off or need to be removed). They can be aggressive and have been know to attack without being provoked... so please be very careful around them!

oh, great. then the one me and kelly killed in the pond was a moc.

wow we're SO smart lol.

::rolls eyes:: well at least that's one less moc to worry about i suppose.

I believe that is a gopher snake. They keep rattle snakes away. If you want I can email the pic to my husbands really good friend. He is a proffessor in NV. That's all he does is reptiles. Do you have alot of them around your place?

I love the pictures of the storm. YOu have a beautiful place!!

its a bit difficult for an amateur to tell from that photo but it could be a number of things including
P-melanistic corn snake
gopher snake
King snake
etc
Have to say i would vear away from the gopher snake cause the head os too broad, but you never know, my first instinct was that it is about the right size to be the p-melanistic corn snake.

Ps your barn is lovely

By the way - if it is a corn snake they are very docile non-poisonous and make excellent pets if you can get hold of them early enough! My friend has one in that colour.

oooh a corn snake. i love them, my friend has an albino one, so sweet.

i didn't think of that. i just saw another snake today, lol, on kayle and my walk in the park. about four feet long. it was pretty, but i have no idea WHAT it was.

do corn snakes hang out in water? i didn't think so, but then again my friend's survived a trip through the washing machine, thereby earning the name "Scuba Steve",....

In my opinion, that snake looks nothing like a cottonmouth. Cottonmouth's have very thick, heavy bodies and the snake in the picture is very long and slender. Also adult cottonmouth's loose their banded apperance, turning almost a blackish color. There are also tons of non-venomous water snakes that look similar to cottonmouths and copperheads.

At first glance, I didn't feel that it was a corn snake (I breed Corns) because the head looks odd to me...but as Lou said, it is a picture and it is very hard to judge on that. I have owned and caught corns that have had that drab look to them, so the coloring could be a corn. But it's hard to say. I just always tell people to just stay away from it if you don't know what it is. Better safe than sorry. But if it were me, I wouldn't kill it. I have seen to many people kill harmless garter snakes thinking they were rattlesnakes. Plus snakes aren't so bad, they keep your mice population down!

Lou, what kind of rats were you thinking on getting?

Hey, which state are you in?

I've seen one like that before. And yes, it is poisonous. Most snakes can be identified by their heads. Triangular wide heads are usually poisonous, the rounded, similar to the body type heads are non-poisonous is usually the standard on first glance.

But there are a few that cross.

Let me know which state you are in. A friend of mine is an expert on snakes. All he needs to know is which snake it is to narrow it down.

he is 99.9% sure that those are Copperheads!!!

This is what he sent me....off of another website.

Adult body length: 24 - 36 inches

Body length at birth: 8 to 10 inches

Breeding period: August to October, and February to April

Young per year: 3 to 10 live young

Typical foods: Small rodents, small birds, insects, lizards and frogs

The Northern Copperhead Snake is closely related to the dangerous Eastern Cottonmouth Snake, a venomous snake that does not live in nature in Ohio.

Look familiar???

KILL THEM ALL!!!!

Now I used this stuff on my property and so did our neighbor up in Kansas. Never had snakes again. Before, we had little garder snakes. I love them. But she shot them all the time. So we got that and did both of our yards and worked pretty good.
