aww...i love the house the family and the horse! very cute horse by the way...a bit on the thin side but nothing horridous...is there a reason her lead shank is on>....do you always have it on...cause if the step on it the wrong way and jerk up...they can hurt their back prettty bad...but if its just like while you walked away to take teh picture...than thats not a huge thing....just wouldnt want it to get stuck on anything if you left if on her all day ...ya know...what does he/she get fed?!? maybe some corn oil in the feed or some ultimate finish..if yall have that...that would put some weight on her...and make her REALLY shiny!!!...but i love the pictures! very cooL!!!

Thanks all for your comments! [Big Grin] I love Star too.
Star gets fed 1 bale of concentrated meadow hay with clover, catstail, (high protein feed)

8 cups of lucern chaff with
fennugreek seed
berruk root
poppy seed
garlic
seaweed meal
yellow sulphur
dolomite
lime
copper sulphate (1/2 teaspoon)
magnesium orotate
all mixed with vegetable oil.
She also has a yellow salt lick.
She hasn't got worms either.
We are feeding Star all of that to speed up the recovery of her stringhalt. Most of those goodies listed up there is what is meant to be in a healthy pasture, but the paddocks here where I live have all had their nutrients sucked out by chemical farming in the past, because it binds all the nutrients like copper, magnesium, sulphur and calcium in the soil and they can't be released into the plants. There is capeweed and dandelions growing everywhere because it is sour soil, healthy sweet soil promotes healthy DARK green grass and capeweed and dandelions don't like to live in it.
We are going to fix up one paddock for Star by spreading approx. 2 1/2 tonne of lime and 1 1/2 tonne of dolomite per 2.3 acres. This will kill all the weeds and help the healthy stuff to grow

She's a thoroughbred, I think that's why I can't seem to fatten her. Ciara (appaloosa x arab) the other horse on our property (not mine) she eats just off the paddock and she packs on the weight.

I only just left the lead rope there to take the photo, I wouldn't dream of leaving it there [Smile] . I did once, I tied the lead rope too low and she sprained her ankle and it swelled up (I was just learning, I would never do it again) My parents had never had a horse b4 either so they didn't have any experience.

Lovely property. I'm jealous. Where abouts in Aus are you? I'm in the nice hot NT (Humpty Doo)
I can agree with you on your supplements. I too feed sulphur, dolomite, copper sulphate and seaweed meal (Pat Coleby staple diet) and my horses are doing quite well on it.
Sometimes you just can't fatten a Thoroughbred. I know, I have 3 and only 2 are anywhere near fat [Smile]
