my mom disided to keep cookie her mare that will not stop rearing, if she dosnt want to do someing or she gets really mad or scared she rears! even if she has seen it a million times she rears my mom wants me to work with her, but i know this is a VERY bad habbit! i dont know how to break her of it! and i am gonna get hurt her soon if i cant get her to stop!, she is head shy to! and she wont walk in or out of the stall with out rearing! i can afford a trainer, i told my mom she is dangerous and we really cant keep her she is gonna hurt someone but she dosnt want to give her up. i can understand kinda when she is not rearing she is pretty sweet and really pretty but she has more things wrong. she is cinchy to! she needs her teeth donr and she is only 7 because she used to crib and she has i think they call it swing leg that comes and gose! and she rears when the farrier trys to clip her feet. she is nervous all the time. when i ride her and put her in a canter she trys to pull her head down adn then shakes her head you know and her eyes roll around. WHAT SHOULD I DO! I DONT KNOW WHERE TO START!!!! but the biggest problem i think it she wont listen, she dosnt care that if she runs into a fence if it hurts her or you she just wants her way! WHAT SHOULD I DO! i dont have a arena or a round pen! help me!!!!!

PROFESSIONAL TRAINER. That's all I can say on this issue. This is a DANGEROUS HORE that needs some professional help.
Good Luck

I would. If you cannot even deal with this horse, you should either sell her with ALL the info on the table, or get some money together and send her to a trainer.
I'd take her for you if you were closer. I love fixing horses like this for people. I don't charge much either. But again, I"m all teh way in Texas.

I don't think you need a professional trainer unless your scared of the horse. My horse used to rear all the time (ask kiwi'sgirl). I got to scared of him at a point where I just stopped riding him. But then I realized it was either sell him or keep him - so I got back on. He had the same attitude where if he got mad he would rear. If I nudged him to walk forward, he would try to rear - thats how bad it got. Personally, to break his habit of rearing, the first thing I did was relax - b/c I was waaay nervous. I would squeeze my legs for him to go forward and if he started to go up I'd "check" him. Meaning, I would pull the rein either to the right or the left - FAST - not a hard yank, but enough to throw him off. And honestly when I first did this we were just zig - zagging across the ring. But after a few rides of doing this he just gave up and started to work again. When ever he would attempt to rear after that I would do the same thing, or if he did it before I could pull him to the side I would throw a fit. I would smack him really quick on both sides of his neck (not his head! but close to it) and scream "NO NO NO!" He would stop trying to rear then b/c he was shocked, he didn't know it was coming. Now he's much better, he canters, walks, trots, jumps, everything and is just the horse I knew he could be.
