Yesterday was a very interesting day with my horse, lol. She was doing great, i mean she is doing great at everything i ask of her. But okay yesterday i was getting ready to ride her, i had her saddled and in the cross ties. I left her alone for 1 second while i hosed off a towel to clean her nose and eyes (I do this all the time and usually it's no big deal). Anyways, it was a HUGE deal today. She was dancing around so i stopped and turned off the water and went to see her and she all of the sudden reared up in the air, one of the cross ties unhooked (thank god or else she would have brocken her back), she slipped and fell hard on her side. Luckiliy a bale of hay kind of broke her fall, well that really scared her and she was about to do it again so i ran up to her and stopped her and then went and walked her checking her over to see if she had hurt herself. She came out of it with a small scratch right above her eye. Anywho, that was interesting but i wasn't going to just unsaddle her and not ride so i made sure she was all calm and did some lounging before i ride and she seemed cool so i hopped on and all was well. We cantered, side passed, did laterals and she was still great. Well i was riding with my friend and she was done ridding and asked me if i wanted to ride around the property so i told her yeah but i would be there in a second. I don't want Felis to get used to leaving when other horses do and we're also working on ridding alone. I had done this a day or two before yesterday and she behaved nicely so i thought okay this will be quick i'll just canter her aorund once then go out and walk around with my friend. Well it's a lot easier said than done, lol. We were rounding the corner and i was leaning a little into the turn to give her more balance and to ease her on. She all of the sudden freaked at the "spooky" corner and shot over one way and i went the other. There was a metal barrel in our way so she dodged that while i was falling off of her, i ended up faling completely off and hitting my arm on the barrel and getting a nasty bruise and a small cut. It was a good thing i still had the reins in my one hand because the gate was open. But once i got my balance again she was calm. All of this freaked me out so bad but i got back on and walked, trotted, and cantered her by the "spooky" corner just to make sure we wouldn't have any more trouble next time i rode and she was pretty good. Oh and i also hooked her back up in the cross ties after lounging her just to make sure she wasn't scared of them either and she was fine (I watched her very close and barely left her side this time, lol). But i know why all of this happened, i jinxed (SP.) myself lol. I said that my horse is good and never spooks or bucks, etc., etc. LOL how stupid was i.
But all is well i made it out alive and so did she.

Wow Allaina. Are you ok? How is the arm? Make sure you get it checked out if it is really bothering you, could have a fracture.
Poor Felis! She may be stiff for a few days, so keep an eye on here. That was quite the day you had.

LOL...i'm fine and my arm only has a small scrath and a bruise. But i am kind of worried about felis, i watched her as she walked after to make sure she wasn't limping and she wasn't but i will definately keep an eye on her today. But after all that happened im not scared to ride her or anything, i mean it was all just freak stuff you know. But thanks for the concern lol. But i do want to tell you that she is doing AWESOME i mean i am so proud of her... she is getting all the stuff im teaching her and she seems to like the work lol. I have been trying to ride her whenever i can which is like 4 or 5 times a week...everyone at the barn envies her lol. Oh and she has been getting flax seed so she looks great and im pretty sure she has some more muscle, i should take some pics and email em to ya.

I'm so glad to hear that! Remember when you were feeling so down about how Felis was behaving? I'm really pleased! Yes! Please send me some update pics. I'd love it. Do you think it was the joinup that turned things around for you?

Possibly...but i also just worked with her whenever i could... i did a bunch of lounging (freelounging, so kind of joiing up) and a lot of under saddle work. I just decided one day that she was so good on the ground with everything that it was time to get her good in the saddle...don't get me wrong she is really calm and all but i wanted her to learn new things. But thanks to you i got out there and did something with her and the joining up did really help...it stopped her charging issue lol.

thanks horsecrazie...i rode her the day after and she was good...so i hope it all goes back to normal lol.
MISSBANDIT: I put felis in the cross ties the day (which was the day after her incident) she was doing okay until i asked her to step to the side but she actually steped over and back then she pulled back trying to flip over again...luckily both the cross ties flew off and she just ended up rearing a little bit. But how would i go about fixing this???

Oh great. Has she taught herself that she can pull out of the cross ties? That is a nasty habit. Have you had her in the crossties since then? I would clip LONG lead's to either side of her halter. Run those through the rings on the wall and have someone holding onto the extra line. Don't actually tie her. Do what you usually do with her in the crossties. Ask her to move over, if she begins to pull back have your helper let the rope out with her. This way she is able to move off without getting fee of the cross ties, but also not hurting herself. Give her a good reprimand for pulling back, shout and stomp your self into her "space". Make it unpleasant for her when she pulls back on the lines. Praise her well for standing nicely.
If she's really being a b.ugger about it, put a chain over her nose and attach a very short lead under her chin. That way you can grab it and give her a yank to stop her in her tracks if she's attempting to pull back on the cross ties again.
I don't know your setup there or how much room you have. But if she becomes successful in pulling the crossties out, you should back her quite aggressively. Push her with your body and voice. Make her really move. I think she's playing with you. Hope this helps. Let me know how she's doing.

Bu.mmer how things always happen when you're back is turned. Babe reared and pulled back in the cross-ties on me last year when i had left the barn to go to the next building (I can't remember what I needed to elave for). But because of our barn setup, once the crossties had been stretched (they werne't release ones) she was far enough back to be in the door way. She kept rearing, because by now she was just scared, and she ripped the crownpiece on the halter, and hit her poll on the top of the doorframe. I thought I was going to have a heart attack.. I ran over as soon as I heard a little noise and I tried to get her to stop.. finally had to dodge between her feet and the door so I could get infront of her and bring her down. There was a little girl playing in the area too.. I was scared for both of them.
Very luckily, Babe didn't hit her poll hard, and except for a headache she was fine. But I am now extra cautious when she's in the ties.
