What about driving? If he's behaving so nicely on the lunge line, I don't see why you can't take that next step. You could then drive him all over the arena and around little obstacles. Ie, trotting poles or around barrels or traffic cones.

I appologize, I misread "lead" for "lunge" somehow. I don't know how old your horse is.

You know you are a horse person when...
...You pull change from your pocket , and hay falls out.
...you yell at the kids, and the horse's name pops out.
...you actually get to a point where flies don't bother you so much.

Your horse won't understand at first. YOu have to teach him. It takes a bit, but always end on a good note, and you'll start seeing some progress.

Just get between him and the fence, cluck him forward, if you have to swing the other end of the lunge line. If he comes off the fence, circle him around, stop him at the fence, and get him moving. Until he learns, you only want him at a walk. You shouldn't be too far off of him at first either. Stay near him and basically "box him in".

Horses have doors. You have to shut doors, and they will move through the other doors. If you have the fence on one side, that door is shut. If you are ont he other side, that door is now shut. He only has 2 more doors. Front and back. YOu just step slightly behind his shoulder and stay there to get him to move forward. Work on it, and it will come around. Try to stay at a walk. As he and you both get better, then you can start stepping further and further away from him.

Then after you can get him up and down the fence, then you can set up some cones, and move him through them WITHOUT TOUCHING HIM. You should be able to step in front of his shoulder, toward him, and he step away.

Good Luck

ok, its kinda bad too, since he is the only horse that cant go out with another one, he has to wait till the end of the day to get out, and get to use a corral, and a lot of the time there isnt time to work him other then stick him out, clean his stall, groom him, and walk him out, kind of annoying
