Hey. I have posted a topic already like this, but I need more help...PLEASE I need as much advice as I can get!
Okay, I have been having a few problems with my horse. He is 7, and a saddlebred\arabian so he is a bit hyper. He has a large step and foward gait. Lately I have been having problems him limping. His back right leg is stiff and he takes a shorted step with it that with the other back leg. Its been going on for like a month. After he got shoes it got better, and then it started again. When I ride him his ears are back, not pinned but back. He acts uncomfortable when I ride him. I have decided to stop riding. When I feel his leg its not warmer than the other, but when I touch the area above the hoof where there is a curve like area, he picks his leg on and really acts uncomfortable.I have been putting lidiment on it after I ride. I am really worried about this I keep thinking that its going to affect him for like and that I will have to sell him. I bought him so that I could finish training him (when I got him he was good, but like I needed to slow down his gaits and help him have a better headset. I wanted to be able to show him in 4-h and EMAA which are arabian(or half) It seems to affect everything, he was getting a slower trot and paying attention to what his feet were doing instead of just flinging them everywhere. Everything was going so well...and now this. The vet is going out to see a few other horses, and I got him to check on my horse. He is going to get anything he needs to find out whats wrong. Maybe a chropracter? Or??????? I really want to help him get better, I wont show this year and just work on making him better. I just dont want to sell him I love him sooooo much. He trys so hard to please me, but I can tell he is uncofortable. Also something that might be the problem is that he is lost weight because he had wolf teeth, and he wasnt digesting his food right. Also the other barn I was at wasnt all that great, and I think that might have had something to do with it. (by that i mean I dont think that they were feed him what they told me they were). Now he is at a great barn and gets extra food, he has gained weight but still needs to gain like 200 more. Anyway, sorry for this really LONG post, but I am just really worried and I just dont know what to do. Anyone please give me some words of advice. Thanks so much ![[Bawling]](graemlins/bawling.gif)

i'd call the vet out! my horse was limping really bad and we thought it was just scratches cuz he got scratches pretty bad this year but it turns out his hoor was unlevel and he had a sprain. this might have been the case with your horse, i'm not sure. after my horse got his feet trimmed, he stopped limping a little but he was still limping. well i'm not quite sure exactly waht could be wrong, but i'd call thevet

How are his stifles? It almost sounds like a stifle/whirlbone lameness. If he stifles have a pulse then slide up to his whirlbones and see if he has any tenderness there. Also check his feet for a pulse, it could be one is affecting the other and you have to address them both in order to fix the main problem. Also check his hocks, I found that gaited horses have a lot of stifle/hock problems. But have a vet come out and check him out. If it is stifles or hocks, paint them with Ball Solution to get a nice working scurff going. Paint 3 days on and 4 days off. Stop painting about 3 days before a show and use baby oil/vaseline to get the scurff off. Good luck with him, and I hope everything is all right.

Ball Solution should be found at any tack store in the paint/linament section. Its a white bottle with a guy on it with black letter. Get a paint brush too.

Joe is going to be okay. The vet was out today to look at a few other horses, and he looked at joe for free. The barn manager (I wasnt there)lunged him so the vet could see. Joe mostly only does it when I am on him though, but you could tell on the lunge. After he checked it out and he said not to worry about it and to keep riding. He said that because Joe was under wieght still (he said he was looking 100% better than when he has last seem him hehehe)He is still weak in his hind end, and that I should do extercises over trotting poles and things like that to get him stronger. He also said that whats causing it how his heel was run down so low and he was twisting his foot when he walked (he got shoes so that is better now) He is going to be fine! I am soooo glad! I worry to much, (but thats okay as long as its about my horsie!) hehehe Thanks everyone for your advice, thanks again! [ May 11, 2004, 05:45 PM: Message edited by: HorseRidinCutie4224 ]
