Ok I just listed a few things that I needed help with but guess what? I'm obviously still in need of some help. But there is only one more thing...

Majik (my 6 yr. old TB) is scared and has been scared of various things. Such as balls. UMBRELLAS, tarps and such. I have been told to put him in a stall with the things he is scared of and leave him there until he is used to it. Tried it. Don't work. Told to work with him while he saw the things and make him walk near it. Tried it. Don't work. I have thrown balls toward my other horse, who wasn't phased. Put the umbrella and tarp by my other horse. And of course he wasn't phased. To show Majik that it doesn't bother my other horse, so it won't bother him. But he just wont get over it! I want to put him in parades and help out at the rodeo we have down here at the carnival, but there will be umbrellas for the sun there and other things that he completely freaks out about. But I can't, I have been working with him on this CONSTANTLY for atleast a year... I need MORE help!!!!

hmmm.. mayb u can associate them some how with something good? we had a little mini mare terrified with things like that, is he scared of umbrellas while they are closed? if not, mayb u could show him one closed, or take the fabric from an old one and let him get used to that and introduced to one open..for the tarp, try leading him up to one on the ground, being held down, and see if **** go near it if it isnt moving..thats the kind of stuff we did with the mare...

Mini,
He can deal with the tarp on the ground, he will walk on it, but only after I do. But as soon as it moves or its up in a crumpled mound, anything like that. He FREAKS out, he will act as though his life is in danger. I have tried, taking a small piece and running it over his body but, as soon as I show it to him, he'll pitch a fit and almost run me over to get away from it. And he is just afraid of the umbrella, whether it be openned or closed....

hmm..try associating it with food maybe? like..somehow put some food (mayb a favorite treat) on a tarp, so he has to go see it in order to GET the treat...for the umbrela..i dunno what you could do, other then keep trying, letting him see them just sitting, doing nothing...did he have some bad experience with them before?

I have no idea if he has had a bad experience, the lady that had him before me was a college girl and spoiled him rotten, so i dont think anything happened while she owned him, but maybe before that. Who knows, I didn't get much background information about him. My mom saw him, fell in love with and bought him without my opinion, but it was a good buy for the most part.

And the food idea sounds like a good idea, I will surely try that.. Thank you! [Big Grin]

yeah mini u have the right idea put an open umbrella in his stall take out his food bucket either leave the umbrella on the ground or hang it at a level where he can eat out of it. then put all of his feed in there so he will have to eat out of it. i have a ? with the tarp u said whenever its down he'll walk on it but if it crumples (like makes that sound) is he afraid of the sound or the whole thing cause when my horse walks on it it makes a sound. do the same thing with the tarp get a small one and crumple it and tape it around his feed bucket so to eat he has to go near it. hope it helped! meredith

ok, for the balls...leave one in his stall, but watch him at first, that way he can just see it, its there, in the corner..?, is his water in a barrel, or a bucket? if its a barrel, put a lil ball in it, so he has to be near it to drink, but if he STOPS drinking, obviously take it out, lol...and it probably wouldnt b a good idea to try all of this at once, lol

I don't even think he knows the tarp is there, he really doesn't pay attention to where he is walking. And what I meant but crumpled mound, was if its not layed out straight, all rolled up and what not. But I have never tried the food... That makes sense, considering the only time he really pays attention to you when you are not riding him is when you have food.. Perfect!

I shall try all of this..but if doesn't work, I won't know what to do...

start small. you can't throw a ball at him and expect him to be ok with it. just start by rubbing a plastic bag on him. start with it crumpled in your hand so it looks really small. and then as he gets ok with it slowly make it bigger and bigger until it is full size and he won't care!! then you can move onto tarps and balls and whatnot! that is how i bompproofed my 2 yr old now i can lay a tarp over him!! it really works! you should give it a try!! good luck!!
