O.k,

I finally decided yesterday that I am not going to breed April, my mom and I have decided that it would be best to sell her:-( Unfortunately if I keep her, I will be paying to shoe, vet, deworm, and feed, a horse that is not going to work, she would make a good trail horse, but i need a horse I can show, and if I want to get out there and work on my training and showing career, she needs to go. i have only had her for about a year, but even when I just think about her being gone, it brings tears to my eyes. We have a lady that's really interested in her, she lives only about 40 mintues away from me, and has promised that if she buys her she will NEVER be sold, she is just looking for a really good trail horse for her 100 lb. husband.

They already have a 23 year old buckskin qh gelsing, and would like another horse...She sounds like a really nice person, and said that she would let me come see her ANYTIME!!

it's just the more I think about it the more it breaks my heart, and I know how some of you guys say that when you sold one of your horses before you wish you could take it back, when she is gone i'll be crying over her for months, and I know it, I will also probably regret it!!

If you guys were in this situation, what would you do??

Nikki

aaww I know it sucks but it's worth it. I've sold a few horses over the years, and honestly if you want to compete you need a horse that is competitive. If April is better as just a trail horse, well that lady sounds like the perfect buyer. Actually I am selling my mare right now, and though I'm sad to see her I'm glad I am selling her because I was able to get Dodger, who is a better barrel horse.

well..if she isnt show worthy then you dont really have a choice if you cant keep two horses...maybe you can look around for a show horse and then sell april...unless thats not an option...if its for the best...then you will be okay! do you have any pictures of her?!? so maybe i could see why she wont be able to show?~?...or you could tell me why maybe?!?

Dont worry too much about it. You need to be happy to make the horse happy. It sounds like the buyer prospect is good.

you'll be sad, but once your new horse gets going, you'll be happier for it.

For all of you who do not know why april can't be show it's b/c she has developed MINOR arthritis in her left shoulder, b/c she was kicked, and then the trama caused the arthritis.

She has a small gimp, but it's there, just enough to where if I even stepped into the dressage show ring, and strted trotting her, I would be disqualified:-(

I love her to death, but I almost feel like some snotty girl, selling her horse, b/c it's not good enough, but that's not how I am, but it's just it's not fair for her to not be trail ridden, and for me to wait, and wait, until eventually i get out of high school to buy another horse on my own...

it just breaks my heart:-(

It is hard, but as time goes by it's easier.
WHen we decided to sell Pennie I almost felt glad at first (she's was kind of a pain) but in the weeks following while we were trying to sell her she was really really good, and I decided I wanted to keep her.
My parents had other ideas though, so soon after she wasn't around anymore. There is still an emptiness but there's always pictures to remind yourself and you know where she would be going and could visit when you wanted!

well sometimes it's best for both you and the horse to sell her

Selling horses is truely hard...but it's good that you're making a mature decision for both you and her. A good home will make even the toughest sale run smoothly and with little heart-ache. Sorry you have to sell her, hope she goes to a good home [Cute Kiss]

Yes, Nikki it will be hard selling April, but like you said she cant be shown. If you really want to show, then you know that it will be best to get rid of her.
You will cry, and be sad, but I have the feeling that you will realize it was for the best. From what it sounds like, the people seem kind, and will provide a good home. I'd sell her only because you want to show and she cant. I am sure you will find that a new horse will make you just a happy. You also cant think of 'replacing' because that is the most difficult thing to do in the world. Just call it another horse. [Smile] (In the end I am sure it will not just be another horse, but a partner)
