Anyone out there adopted one? Can someone tell me a little more about the process, etc?
Thanks! I'm really interested.

Been there, done that. [Woot!] In fact Limerick is a PMU baby. I went through the United Pegasus Foundation based out of California. You can call and tell them what breed you are looking for, what color, what discipline etc and Hellen will do her best to match you up. Or you can do what I did and drive out there and pick one out yourself. I believe that most requirements are the same, you need proof of where you will keep the horse. A letter from your Vet, and some references. No wire fences, must have turnout etc. Out here we do a lot of fox hunting and I know several of the "big barns" here have started using PMU babies. The cross between draft and some of the other breeds makes for a great horse for any discipline. I have also seen registered QH, Paints, Arabs, and even clydesdales for adoption. Some of the PMU farms have found that they have an easier time placing registered horses or sporthorse breeds.
As far as training goes, when all you have to overcome is fear, you will be amazed on how quickly they progress. Limerick is an absolute doll, two weeks after I picked him up someone offered me $3000.00 cash for him for a dressage prospect.

Where are you located? There are several organizations who work with PMU babies, If you arent around CA there is a facility in Washington, there is also an organization "foal trek" sp err that works on placing foals

westernriding-> a PMU foal is a foal that was born at a PMU barn. (PMU is Pregnant Mare Urine) My family owns a PMU barn. There are about 120 mares in our barn. Their urine is collected for use of the estrogen in hormonal medications and heart medications.
