wild at heart
I never want to see you broken down and bowing your noble head to men with whips Submit, I imagine-whisper and think of us galloping as one flaming angel down grassy strips of heaven I wish you would lick the sugar from my hand and we would walk back to the barn shoulder to shoulder with no rope between us yet seeing your savage head with its small sharp eyes that see in shades of instinct and survival and blood and water- I know that only in chains will your heart belong to me. wild hearts that are beyond my grasp and wild eyes that seek the horizon and see only city lights this is what you are, if I could set you free maybe I could make things right you would die young and happy running on the dry plains of your origin, part of me thinks it would be better that way. now our hearts are both in chains mine because you can never belong to me and yours because I can never set you free. i know what you mean, ive seen horses from teh BLM roundups, and i know the roundups are a good thing because they keep the wile horse population stable, but still I wonder if those horses can ever be happy in captivity..

Beautiful! And so true. I've always struggled with that inner conflict - needing to be with horses, at the same time wishing I could liberate them.
BTW, Chaos, have you ever tried natural horsemanship? It gives the horse much more freedom, at the same time cultivating an understanding between horse and human. I love it!
