Alright, I pulled out my tack catalogue the other night, and I got stuck on the leg wraps section. Could someone please explain to me the difference between:

Stall Bandages
Standing Bandages
Saratoga Bandages
Brace Bandages
Flannel Bandages
Polo Bandages

I currently use polo bandages on my mare. I use them for protection over jumps. However, looking at the long list of different bandages, is one of those better than what I am using?

And if you could please explain what each one is used for, I'd really appreciate that. Plus, which are to be used alone and which should have cottons underneath?

Thanks a billion!

Racetrack lingo on bandages:

Polos you know
Standing we consider the barn bandages for doing the horses up with but I've also heard them called barn bandages so go figure.
We use shipping boots when we ship they cover the feet and incase of sudden stops etc offer more protection
Brace bandages are also called running bandages since they are used on tbs and standards for racing. They are very elastic and takes a practiced hand to put them on correctly with out being too tight or too loose.
The saratoga I'm not sure on, and flannels are also called quilts. I'm sure others will fill in the blanks.
Standards also have trotting boots, knee boots, tendon boots, arm boots, scalpers, bells, 1/4 boots and heel boots. There are a lot more, but these are the big ones, plus knee spreaders.

Thanks Idrivetrotters. I know some of the Standardbred equipment, but I am still becomming familiar with it all. I have just gotten my grooms license and I have a job at the track with a friend this summer, who has pacers.

As for the flannels, i found them in my greenhawk catalogue, and they are not what you put under a bandage, they are the actual bandage. Unfortunately the website doesn't have a picture, but thats okay.

Can anyone else tell me anything different about the other bandages? [Smile]

Thanks muchly [Smile]
