Put down a down payment for her to hold the horse and talk to your parents if they know you are going to do this and start babing sitting or doing chores to pay off the horse. If you live by this person see if you can work at there farm in exchange for the horse. If theres a will theres a way.

What about offering the owner to take care of the horse? If it's not to hard, you could feed her, muck stalls, clean her tack, anything a horse owner would do. Maybe she'll see that you're very interested, and she'll wait a while before selling her to auction.

Take a loan from the bank, have your parents sign and then get a part time job or something to help pay it back...it is allot of work to have a horse, but SO gratifying.

I don't know if this is the case or not, but I have seen and heard of more and more people selling horses who say if you don't buy the horse that they are going to the auction. They use that threat as a sales tactic. It might or might not be the case here, but it is something you should consider. What reason did this seller give for taking the horse to the auction? Why the deadline? How old is the seller? Is this person in the business of buying and selling horses or just owns this one horse?

First, can you afford to care for the horse? Buying a horse to save their life, only to not be able to properly care for them is worse than sending them to auction.
This is a VERY Common sales tactic. Hate to say it, I've used it on one person who kept coming and coming, and never made a definite decision. Finally, she came up with the money.

Oh yeah, Sandra is right. You see a lot of that actually. When we were looking for our last horse we heard that line more than once. "Oh, we're sending her off to the auction if she doesn't sell by the end of the week". One jerk told me he'd be sending his mare to the canners if we didn't take her. She was dead lame and doped sky high. Jerk.
No one would send their horse off to auction if they know there is somebody very serious about the sale. They may end up getting LESS at the auction.

I have to admit that this person putting that sort of pressure on you to "buy ...or the horse is off to the auction"...sends up a red flag. If I was your parent I would not let anyone rush me into buying. I would want the horse checked out first and that could take some time making all the necessary arrangments to get the person/s who I wanted to check the horse out there.
I am still curious as to: What reason did this seller give for taking the horse to the auction? Why the deadline? How old is the seller? Is this person in the business of buying and selling horses or just owns this one horse?

Grandsgirl2003 I realize that you are 13 years old but a lot of us who have been in the horse world for a long time get highly suspicious when a seller goes into the hard sell mode and trys to hurry things up. If you would answer my questions instead of posting your emotional replies maybe some one here would be able to offer you some helpful advice. In order to do that though we need MORE information! So again I ask: What reason did this seller give for taking the horse to the auction? Why the deadline? How old is the seller? Is this person in the business of buying and selling horses or just owns this one horse? [ March 29, 2004, 08:58 PM: Message edited by: Sandra-A1 ]

No I am sorry maybe I was not clear enough:
How did you find out about this horse since you say it is pretty far from you?
What reason did the person selling this horse give for taking the horse to the auction?
How long have you been talking to her about getting this horse?
What do you mean payday for stables? She owes money for the board bill?
How old is the person selling this horse? You say she still lives with her parents so is she close to your age or is she an adult? If she is not an adult what do her parents have to say about this?
Have your parents talked to this girl or her parents? Do they even know about this horse? Have they seen it? [ March 29, 2004, 09:19 PM: Message edited by: Sandra-A1 ]

k, i agree with all of the above and shes just tryin to help and be thuro. but most importantly, all the costs, u NEED a vet check to make sure the horse is sound, whos gonna bring the horse to u and if she will will it cost u extra, and then were are u gonna keep it and how will u affordit? then theres tack and vet bills and farriers and on and on and on costs! then if this horse gets sick and now im just rambling lol, but its all important! and make sure if u do go thru with this that the u get the VET check done and NOT by her vet!!!! hope i have been of some assistance! ![[Razz]](tongue.gif)

quote: The horse was too much so hes going to get me a dog.
Then there is nothing more to discuss. Your parents obviously are not going to accept the additional expense of the horse so unfortunately there is little that can be done when it comes to you getting it. While your heart might be in the right place it is still the heart of a 13 year old girl who is has to accept her parents decision. You will learn that you cannot save them all and in order for you to even be able to save one horse that you think is in a bad situation you will have to be an employed adult first. I am truly sorry, but as I see it further discussion about you getting this horse is pointless.
