I miss riding with friends and having a trainer. I have one person to ride with where im at and i usually end up going on trail rides because thats what she does. I love trail rides but now that my friend holly is gone to college i really get tired of riding by myself in the ring all the time. I dont even have a trainer to keep me company once in a while. I'm afraid im losing the will to ride consistantly. I need something new, or at least some company. I love the lady i ride with now, but its nto the same as having an instructor or a ring buddy. Maybe you guys have osme ideas on doing new things in the ring so i dont get so bored. I need to get ready for the show ring, i only have a few months, but its hard when your by yourself.

Have you ever thought about training your horse to do barrels?

Cross training is always a good change from the every-day ring work. My horse currently is trained to WP (not very good at it), Barrels, poles, stakes, etc....and now we are cross training to english to give more variety to life. I've been lunging him over jumps recently to REALLY spice up life!!

I'm just reading this article about cross training, it's really interesting For all of you who don't know, cross training includes:
Lungeing or long-reining Flatwork Jumping Road work Riding on bridleways/tracks Hill work Fast work
Cross training encourages your horse to be the best all-around athlete he can be as well as reducing injury risk. Crosss training doesn't just focus on one thing, it furthers your horses talent in all spheres.
When i get my horse i'm definately going to do cross training instead of just working on the one thing.

Then there is the type that if your horse does that, you train over to another dicipline...ie wester, gymnika (sp?), etc. There is a horse at the barn that came in for the week that is awesome. he does english and western events beautifully...and will keep up with me in speed events too!! THAT horse isn't bored...
