------

City: Winchester State: Kentucky
Price: $250 Condition: Used - Excellent
Brand: Wintec Color: Black
Size: 16.5? Style:

Memo:
I am selling this for my sister. She bought it brand new and sat on horse once. Has a little dust smudge underneath one side where placed on horse. Otherwise kept in saddle bag in house. Decided she needed a saddle with a horn. Not riding huntseat anymore. Comes with girth, irons, and stirrup leathers (well, synthetic version). Can e-mail more pics. Saddle is actual Wintec brand -- not a knock-off. Price negotiable.
------

I'm just browsing, trying to get an idea of what a good saddle would be for when I get my horse in the summer. I was wondering what you all think of this one. And can someone explain the whole size thing to me? Boggles me..haha. Thank you.

I personally do not care for the "traditional" Wintec saddle as you have posted a pic of here. The new Isabell Werth version of the Wintec saddle is much more acceptable.

Look at the sharply fashioned Panels (under the cantle). Those sharp edges literally dig into the backs of some horses and cause them to become dead lame. I personally know of 2 horses who became dead lame and even began kicking when a brush was run over their back after several weeks in a Wintec.

You should choose a saddle that distributes the weight more evenly across the back and does not jam the rider's weight down into the horse's back over a very small area as the old style Wintec does.

If you "do" use a saddle like this you must be very cautious and watch your horse closely. Be sure to use a closed cell foam or gel pad in conjuction with your normal fleece or square schooling pad.

I rode in the older, traditional version of the Wintec and it caused terrible sores on my legs in several different places. The sores got so bad I had to resort to bareback until everything healed up. Definitely not my idea of a comfortable saddle.

The saddle size is measured in a direct line from the front of the pomel to the back of the cantle. This measurement can be between 12 and 18 inches unless the saddle is specially made smaller or larger. Half sizes are possible too (17 1/2, 15 1/2, etc.)

Are you in search of an All Purpose, Close Contact or Jumping saddle?

that looks like a dressage saddle. the flaps are very long. I had a wintec, and personally i wasnt too fond of it. i know alot of people like it though. It made me hunch-over while i was riding. I bought a Nesson-Pessoa Equation saddle!

good luck in your search.

Yes horsecraze - you're right. It's a Dressage saddle. Notice the long billets. Dressage saddles are the only ones with long billets. I should have noticed that.

Yep - I've been there too. I remember shopping for the first saddle [Smile]

By the way - when you're ready to buy a saddle - I have one for sale! Ha ha! Just kidding. Anyway, here's the link to it. Price is negotiable [Smile] I outgrew it many moons ago but it was an AWESOME saddle! Very comfortable for horse and rider. It's in beautiful condition.

All my horses are ridden in "Ideal" saddles, they are the most comfortable saddles you can get, they fit brilliantly as they have a wide gullet so they dont press on the spine and they dont tend to get pushed down onto the whithers when you put weight in the saddle. They do all types of saddle from jumping to dressage. The GP saddles are quite cut forward and i use them for jumping so if you want to do more flat work then jumping i recommend a working hunter saddle. Slightly straighter cut.

Just wanted to point out that seat size is from the front screw to the middle of the cantle. Not a large difference from what was stated but might make an inch or two of difference (which is a large difference.)
