I stick electrolytes over the grain. My horse HATES it in his water. But he's too greedy for his feed to care. I just add a little bit.
On show days, I'll add one of the gatoraid frosts to his water bucket. One of those 32 oz bottles to a 5 gallon bucket of water. He drinks that bucket down within the hour so I know he's getting all of it.

There are a nice assortment of Electrolyte products available and formulated precisely for a horse. I prefer to use one that is made for horses as I know that it is formulated for use in Equines and my horse/s will recieve the sufficient amount of Electrolytes it's body size needs. Many of them are flavored so that they will appeal to a horse. I would seek out one of the flavored ones and introduce the new smell and taste to your horse gradually at home. If I am worried about a horse drinking sufficient amounts of water while away from horse at a show or other event, and will be away too long to be able to bring enough water from home, I will begin to add vanilla flavoring, Sprite or 7-Up to their water while at home to get them used to the new taste and smell, then do this while at the show. Anything that your horse will find appealing to consume along with sufficient amounts of water will work. Also if you use a different water bucket away from home than at home you need to start using it at home well advance of your event so your horse will be used to the difference in smell and taste! Most of the "horse not drinking enough" problems can be easily solved by preparing the horse well in advance and not waiting until the day of or the day before the event. ![[Wink]](wink.gif)

I saw on another board that Apple Juice added to horses' water makes a good incentive for them to drink.

Gatorade is used by some, but IMO, it is more expensive than electrolytes that are designed for horses. My horse gets electrolytes every night in his feed. I use Apple-Dex and he loves it. ![[Wink]](wink.gif)

Strider will not drink at shows unless he has gatorade in his water. Here is a pic for you.
I get some really funny looks he only likes X factor with tropical punch and strawberry or whatever. Anyway I think he looks better after a show when we give him gatorade then when he just gets regular water. And he WON'T drink at shows unless its gatorade wierd huh?

Electrolytes are very important. They are most important in winter when horses are likely to reduce their water intake. My horses like strawberry Kool-Aid on the road. Not very healthy, but keeps 'em drinking.

soory if any1 has alreadt said any of this...have no time to read the post.
I feed electrolites to my horses... they are very important, especially i the summer and winter months! i fed my mare an electrolyte apple flavoured powder in her morning grain, tho you may want to use some water or something wet (my mare usually gets oil, so its covered) otherwise some will leave as much of the powder in the bottom of their bucket as possible. gatorade is also usefull, tho it is expensive, and when you change the water, you have to add more gatorade... its like 2.50 a bottle here... plus your never sure how much they are taking in!... but yes i use them, and i use them faithfully, as dehydration is a very nasty thing!...
