Topic: front legs prevent her from eating

My pony Trigger she is 15-19 years of age i got her when i was very very young but now she is just a pasture mate but she has pretty bad arthritis in her front legs andi bearly see her eating if i give her alpha alpa or grain or anything like that she'll eat it but i mean in the fiel with all the grass i never see her eating shes not overly skinny but she is a bit skinny any suggestions

You may have to raise her feeding tub to chest level.

Do you ahve her on any kind of joint therapy? Her pain could be causing depression, which in turn will decrease her appetite. Also, older horses should have thier teeth checked twice per year.

Have her teeth checked, legends is expensive but it works wonders on those arthritic joints, there are also other joint supplements that help and discuss this with your vet what the best course of action is on those joints. I would raise her feed tub to chest level, have either free choice hay cubes or a hay net available to her to help her feed without having to bend.

shes on bute to relive the pain and some people are after telling me to giv her aspirin to relieve some pain thanks for ur replys ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif)
