well first, Fiona IS pregnant... but there is a bit of a problem...

she has TWINS!!! i cant believe this!! its so scary!! the vet has to come Tuesday to find the smaller of the 2 and pinch it, so basically kill it. and if it doesnt work Fiona has to have an abortion!!! i never thought Fiona could have twins, and i dont want her to. when my mom told me she was pregnant i was all smiles, and then she told me there were 2. i started to cry. i dont want my girl in any harm and i dont want the foal in any harm. can u all pray that they are able to pinch the one(i kno it sounds bad, but it could end up killing both of them anf Fiona) and that Fiona is healthy and so is the other foal? i would really appreciate it. and if anyone has any tips about this or have experience could u help me maybe get over this? its a huge shock and i'm really scared.

Raps' breeder had a mare who cycled twins more than once, and would only niche with the Arab stallion. She actually delivered twins once, both were healthy but one was frail, and didn't survive. Take a deep breath, and try not to think of it as killing a foal- it's embryonic goo at this stage. The option of letting the mare carry twins to term include losing a foal, losing the twins, losing the mare, all of the above. The vet will surely do what is best for all concerned. My heart is with you.

Oh hun! Big hug and [Cute Kiss] to both you and Fi! How worried you are! How old id Fiona? If she's young and healthy (Which Im sure she is) she may not have problems or complications. You poor things. Try to get some rest, it'll cool your mind. Fi is a strong mare. Im sure she and the foals will be just fine.
Just imagine when they both come out beautiful and happy. [Smile]

Im so sorry to hear that. Hopefully the pinching off will work. I know it may sound cruel to some people, but it is safer for the mare and foal. Twins are pretty rare, and raely all three horses(2 foals and dam) live. Not saying that they can't but usually at least 1 of the three horses dies. I sure hope everything goes okay, good thing that you caught this soon, otherwise it could have turned intoa HUGE problem.(If my memory serves my correct, Fiona was just recently bred)
Best wishes!

--------------------
Mares:
Honey-buckskin(in-foal to a smutty buckskin stallion)
BG-palomino/dunalino(foaled a beautiful filly)
Dibby-dun(in-foal to a palomino stallion)
Star Bucks-buttermilk buckskin(not bred, we may just use her as a riding horse)

Fillies:
Lizzy-grulla(will be used as a broodmare in the future, due to an injury as a weanling...we are unsure if she will be riding sound, although she might be, as her injury has healed so well...you can't even tell)
Sheba-black(hopefully will be shown in Halter classes starting this year)
Blue-blue roan(we aren't too sure what we are going to do with this filly yet....but she is a cutie)

Geldings:
Poco-sorrel/overo*Paint*(Awesome riding horse!)
Brandy-*FOR SALE*(Nice 2 yr old, going into training soon, price will go up, feel free to ask me about him..if you are interested)

Foals:
Tinker Bell- Red dun filly. Nice short neck, long legs, beautiful eyes..absolutely beautiful. Very people friendly.

Other 2 foals are expecting between May and June.

Just for your information "pinching" a twin is statisticaly safe with rarely any problems.

In the long run carring one healthy foal is the safest for both mare and foal.

Be glad science has progressed to the point that the Vet is now able to detect that a mare has twins along with the knowledge and abilty to take care of the problem before the mare is endangered!
Pinching off one embryo is common proceedure and terminating a mare's pregnancy simply involves a shot.
Yes, you hear of mares having twins, but you hear of the success stories more often than the other! That is because a mare carrying to term and deliver twins is still rare and very risky!
Trust your Vet and don't be too sad.
I know I would not want any mare of mine to risk carrying twins and would have my Vet do what ever was necessary to end the risk.

i'm not sad that one of the embryo has to be pinched, i'm just scared and shocked that i found out. i kno it is safer for there to be only one foal, thats why i freaked. i just want Fiona to have a successful foaling. today is (i think) the 20th day of pregnancy so we have 10 days to make sure the embryo is successfully pinched. it'll be done on tuesday and checked thursday (and if needed) pinched again.
thank u for all of ur prayers.

Wow, that is shocking. I'm sorry you've been so worried for your mare. I'm sure that everything will turn out ok. The twins were discovered very early on so there is plenty of time to get things all sorted out. It's a shame one has to go though. [Frown]

It is sad to think of one of the embryos being pinched, but it will allow the other one to grow normaly and more healthy. With 2 they don't develope as well. I know it is hard, but it is better in the long run to have 1 healthy foal than 2 sick ones or worse!

i dont care if they even have to pinch both of them. as long as Fiona is fine. normally i am against abortion(this is sorta like it) but when it dangers the mare(or person) i kno it needs to be done and i want it done. 1 out of like 10,000 times do the 3 make it. and i aint takin that chance...ever. so i am NOT sad that the embryo is being pinched. i'm only sad cuz i'm scared.

i'll pray for u all and trust me twins they may be cute but not good. heres my story:at the old barn were i used to take lesons at there was this mare, a black arab named asala, every kid always wanted to ride her cuz she was the perfect lesson horse.well one day the woman who ran the barn, bonnie, dicided to let her take a little break so she bred her to her arab stallion, khaberjai aka khab (cab) very high strung beautiful deep bay that she used to do endurance racing with, anyway so she bred asala and time went by and she had twins but both were stillborn they were identical all black with a tiny white star right smack dab in the middle of there head they looked exactly like there mom. so for the next few day asala was depresed then if the whole barn wasnt sad enough (we were all hoping for another baby asala, asala being the perfect mare as she was) she began to FOUNDER!!!!really really bad so then (well bonnies husband is a farriar so she was lucky there!)and she couldnt walk and it came to the point were she was 100% not gonna make it! well one day a lil tiny kid about 3-4 years old went into the barn the day we had called the vet to put her down. he looks into the stall and goes "here horsey come eat a carrot" and held out the carrot we were all standing there and his mom starts to explain that the horse is sick when she gets up and hobbles over to him and eats it. and she survived! and still today she hulls kids around for hours everyday! and that was 4 years ago. and last yr. she was bred again so maybe this time we will be a lil luckier! good luck im sure everything will go fine and i will pray for ya'll!-mere-

A horse foundered so bad that it was going to die, and eating a carrot saved it to the extent that it is now a lesson horse and being bred again?

AWW I am so sorry about that. Atleast getting rid of one now is better than it being born dead, or born alive then dying. (Not that killing a embryo is a good thing) You are saving yourself from sadness later. Although the foals could have lived if you didnt pinch one, its better safe than sorry.
