I was also curious how many of us on here have the privledge to own a Foundation QH.
MY HORSE: HOLLYS CLASSIC BAYB "Holly" is a 15-1 Hand, 1000#, 5 year old, mare, Bay in color (not a white spec on her). Being prejudice, she's the sweetest mare, horse, on earth. My wife who has a QH as well, keeps telling me she jealous of her extended trot, smooooth. I hope to breed her some day, but I am having to much fun riding her.
93% Foundation - AQHA - FQHA - NFQHA Registered
Sire Side has Joe Cody, Wimpy, King ... JOE CODY Dam Side has Leo, Joe Reed, Little Joe ...
HOLLY
Hollys Classic Bayb
Aren't they a great horse?

Two foundation quarter registries FQHA & NFQHA. They judge % percentage amounts slightly different.
FQHA NFQHA
The percentage is the amount of pure QH blood in them. The more TB blood the lower the percentage. There can be TB in the line but the closer to the actual sire and dam in the lineage also lowers percentage.
Foundation Contest run alittle different as well. It's more about the horse than the rider.

I am having my mare's FQHA Percentage Calculated, She's got King, Three Bars, Chubby, Steel Bars, ETC.
She's a Solid bay, and the only white she has happen to be scars from spurs and such from before I bought her.

oh thanks Steph for the nice words. My trainer is really into halter (impressive bred)horses and always tells me his head is too big, well I guess he does fit into a full size halter at two LOL!! and he is only 14h at the moment! hopefully he will grow into his head, but I love him and keep telling her he is a ranch horse and that is why he sleeps in the stalls at the shows, and rests a leg when bored at standing tied up.
O.O.W - wow she looks fantatic for a yearling ! but I guess it has something to do with the grass oh how I love a QH's bum

Debbie- full size at TWO??? Ha, I wish I was that lucky, my filly Sugar was filling a FULL SIZE at a mere 11 MONTHS!!!
It's like I was changing halters on her every 2 months!!!
If I was lucky enough to have my QH mare's head look like your boys, I would be SO HAPPY.. now her head is BIG!!

LOL !! 11 months OMG that is quick we kind of went from yearling show halter to full size, I am really pleased - it saves me getting the 2yr old one and the mare one ! trouble using the rope halters is you don't even realise that they are growing!
would love to see some pics of your mare !! I much prefer the stocky heads .. trouble with some halter horses they have huge bodys and tiny little heads, I guess that is they way the judge must like them . I like the ranchy type of horse.. which is good as he came from a ranch LOL

Wow! This is neat to find others who truly appriciate the foundation breeds. I have one horse, a colt actually who will be gelded this May. He loves me and the feelings are mutual. He ignores the other horses to follow me everywhere! I have never had a baby or a horse that showed so much trust, love and admiration for me. He is registered FQHR, but is only 91 percent. He 5th generation sires are Poco Bueno and Two Eyed Jack. He is developing a rearing problem at 11 months-three times now he has performed his little stunt while I was leading him. If anyone has any advice, please let me know. I try to side track him and cue him to distract him, but to no avail. His ears are forward, he is playing, but he can't do this when a human is at the other end of the lead. I want to make a diciplined trail/ranch horse out of him. He is the only horse I have and care to have, but we are working through the colt obsticals. I am not in reproducing, just companionship and he offers a lot of that....more than any other breed or horse that I have ever owned. I am thinking that it is all in the breed! Foundations Rock!

On the rearing up thing, you've gotta discipline him HARD if he continues it.. my 19 month old filly who was born and raised in my care started it too, finally it got so bad one day I literally had to Crack her 3 times so hard on the chest I nearly cried from the pain it caused me to do that to my "baby" but she doens't do it anymore, she learned I'd had enough and was no longer putting up with it!
Just don't let him get away with it, he has to learn that YOU are in CHARGE and YOU DEMAND PROPER BEHAVIOR!

Thanks, I suspected that when he did this behavior thing three different times now that he is making a habit out of it. He has been diciplined for all three times, but I was unsure of the correct way to do it. He was whipped, but that sounds like such an horrid word and the action feels so bad. I have been informed to take a whip and crack him hard and make it count on his hock area to bring him down and make it memorable enough to let him know that that behavior is completely unexceptable. I am doing this again Sat and I will try this method of dicipline, I will let you know how productive I am. It is hard being so aggressive with a baby, but I know it has to be done, what was eay to handle at 400 lbs, isn't so easy to handle at 700 lbs. THanks again for your input. TORI

Definition of the Quarter Horse from FQHA.
FQHA - definition
Breed Standards
NFQHA is different
Just a few things to bring this back to why I started this.
Do you have or have you had a Foundation Quarter Horse? Registered? What was the sire, dam, grandsire or granddam? Tell us something that you want everybody to know about your horse or the breed.

Hey 7, We have several foundation horses, one of my stallions is FQHR, he stands 14.2, My mare Kit is also FQHR, she stands at 14.3, and another one of my mares (FQHR) is 14 hands but ya can't let the size fool ya, she is all that and then some. Am looking forward to breeding her and Playboy together this yr, sure to get an awesome performance prospect. Our Denver stands 15 hands and is FQHR and has the little ears and BIG behind, weighs about 1200 lbs or so. I haven't figured out how to post pics on here, I have them on my website, (which I am still building) some of the horses have their own pages and some you can view under photos boot (button)it gives either their pedigree or who they have in their lines... I am a big pedigree buff. But yea, gotta love those foundation horses!!!

My Spider is only 91 % foundation. He sire is named Scotto Spider who is out of Scotto Dee Bar, then Doc's Dee Bar who is out of Doc Bar. Poco Bueno is in his 6th generation on his sire's side. On his dam's side, his mom is Miss SPeedy Bandit out of two fox bandit and miss speedy deuce. Two eyed fox is in 4th generation on dam's side who is out of two eyed jack=sixth generation. My favorite part is the 5yh generation Classy Bar, 6th generation Pretty Buck and Sugar Bars all on his dam's side. I don't have any champion blood in the first 3 generation, but after that, things look real good. The lightening bar ruins his percentage for me, but something tells me that that guy nailed a lot of pedigrees in teh foundation line:)

My mare is being bred to a FQHA reg. Stud, I am having her pedigree checked for percentage of foundation blood, and I think she's got a high percentage, so the baby should be pretty good!
I love FQHA's and NFQHA's! They are SOOOO AWESOME!!!

I considered registering SPider under the NFQHA, but in all honesty, there aren't any organization activities that we could participate in locally. I registered through FQHR due to our Michigan affiliate organization that puts on shows and activities such as cutting clinics in the lower michigan area. I can at least attend them and be a part of our organizaiton that we are a member of. This is the only reason I have limited my registration to FQHR (foundation quarter horse registry).
