OMG - that poor mare (Robin's Pretty Blu) is absolutely PATHETIC I swear I don't know what Halter people are thinking by bulking those animals up so grotesquely fat. It's dangerous to their health! Well - no wonder they're lame at an early age. It's abuse if you ask me. [Roll Eyes]

[Smile] I guess it is just the winter fuzz and the way she is standing while in foal [Wink] ...
I think she looks pretty nice in this summer shot:

Image remove, but anyone wishing to see this mare may use the link provided below to do so! [Wink]

[Smile] Even though I was not asked to remove the photo of the mare by the owner I will gladly do so to avoid any problems! [Big Grin]

For those wishing to see this lovely mare, who is by the way, an excellant example of the orginal quarter horse may do so via this link! [Wink] :

Mare in summer!

BEAUTIFUL....

Question Jumpers - Do you know them personally? How do you know that those horses are just not naturally built that way? I have seen many QH's that have massive chests and massive hind ends that need no work!

I have a hard time believing that those mares as HUGE as they are are worked every day to build those muscles... those are not muscles that are "BUILT UP" those look natural to me.

JUST MY OPINION!!!

Many people are born fat too. Does that mean they should NEVER do anything about it, for the sake of their health?

NO, this horse is not FAT, she is naturally muscled like that. I know these people personally, and they are VERY NICE PEOPLE, AND THEY TAKE EXCELLENT CARE OF THEIR HORSES!!!!! I own this mares 2003 foal, and both mare and foal are AWESOME! This horse is not shown in halter, she is a Foundation registered Quarter Horse. This mare is not worked everyday, she is NATURALLY muscled. Obviously you dont know Quarter Horses, if you have never seen a well muscled one. I am VERY offended from what you said in your post, and I WILL continue to post back to you from what you have said. Yes, maybe your opinion, but dont say ANYTHING like you did in your post, because you DONT know these people or horses personally, so you have no right saying what you said. Also, if you didnt know she IS in-foal,and she DID have a winter fur, and she IS naturally muscled like that, and one last thing, that horse IS one of the BEST horses around.

people are not born fat, it is a under active thyroid or excessive eating and non activity.

Actually - you are wrong. A human can be born fat and stay fat. We almost adopted a baby who was so grossly fat she couldn't even wear socks because they cut her cirulation off. At 4 months old, she was wearing clothes made for an 18 month old.

We got some weight off of her but it took very careful, consistent care. So YES, humans can be born fat.

NOT under normal circumstances...it is usually society that makes us fat, doing things in ecess OR a medical condition.

Honestly, I am not interested in your idea of a fat or muscular horse, I am telling you what this mare(Robins Pretty Blu) is. And fat, is not something that she is! Its called muscle. Now your idea of a muscled horse, is average. Its muscle...but not terribly muscled, Robins Pretty Blu is a true MUSCLED horse, wheather you think so or not. But what I need to say is, dont say that the hors is fat....when you dont even know the horse or owners.

Excuse me sweetheart? I don't give a rat's little white a.ss about WHO owns this horse, nor your relationship to them. This horse is FAT - IN MY OPINION. And I stated that opinion.

And for your information - I have owned 6 Quarter horses in my life. One of which went to the QH congress and did very well, and actually ROMd in pleasure driving. My latest QH I owned for 10 years. And she was a HUGE foundation bred mare. And I assure you - she DID NOT look like this blue horse [Wink]

And as I stated before - just because a horse is naturally fat does not mean that the owners need to keep him/her that way.

The horse may be "one of the best horse's around" to you and to the owners, and that's great. She should be. But to me - based solely on these pictures - she is entirely too fat. Almost comical.

That's my opinion.

Can I please put in my two cents? I also don't think this horse looks obese. There are a couple of things that jump out at me. One is her chest area between her legs. That area is nicely muscled and tight, not loose and flabby. Secondly is her stance. Her legs are set quite wide apart, her chest is incredibly deep and wide. I have posted a pic of my QH cross from years back that was obese. His chest looked nothing like this mare. No offense to anyone please.

You know you are a horse person when...
...You pull change from your pocket , and hay falls out.
...you yell at the kids, and the horse's name pops out.
...you actually get to a point where flies don't bother you so much.

Everyone has their opinions, and that's great. MY PERSONAL OPINION is that I would not allow this mare to stay this fat if she were mine. NO WAY.

If you think she looks great, then fabulous. She looks great to you. That's your opinion. I'm not going to fight for 3 days over the "fatness" of this mare. I've said my opinion based on the photos.

You dont need to know the horse or its owner to see that the horse is fat? No...maybe you dont need to know the horse or its owner....but you DO need to know that this horse is N O T fat!

What does that mean? I DO know the breed. Actually, I know it very well. I grew up with Quarter Horses. My first leased and later owned horse was a foundation bred QH mare.

The second horse I ever owned was a QH stallion who I sold to a barrel racer and until his retirement he was undefeated on the college rodea circuit. (I trained him myself)

I rode and trained 2 massive QHs that belonged to other people. We bred Quarter Horses. We raised 2 babies - one out of The Invester (I'm sure you know who he is [Wink] ) and one out of Jesse Tivio. Our Invester baby went to the World show.

When I was a kid my mother showed halter horses for the owner's of Conclusive Lee (I'm sure you know who he is too) and NONE of our horses EVER looked like this mare.
