Okay, yes I know this a dumb question.....and i should know this....but.....what is the easiest way to make a foal lay down?
-------------------- Mares: Honey-buckskin(in-foal to a smutty buckskin stallion) BG-palomino/dunalino(foaled a beautiful filly) Dibby-dun(in-foal to a palomino stallion) Star Bucks-buttermilk buckskin(not bred, we may just use her as a riding horse)
Fillies: Lizzy-grulla(will be used as a broodmare in the future, due to an injury as a weanling...we are unsure if she will be riding sound, although she might be, as her injury has healed so well...you can't even tell) Sheba-black(hopefully will be shown in Halter classes starting this year) Blue-blue roan(we aren't too sure what we are going to do with this filly yet....but she is a cutie)
Geldings: Poco-sorrel/overo*Paint*(Awesome riding horse!) Brandy-*FOR SALE*(Nice 2 yr old, going into training soon, price will go up, feel free to ask me about him..if you are interested)
Foals: Tinker Bell- Red dun filly. Nice short neck, long legs, beautiful eyes..absolutely beautiful. Very people friendly.
Other 2 foals are expecting between May and June.

May I ask why? I usually just wait and catch the foal when it already down if I need it to be down. ![[Wink]](wink.gif)

Well.....I dont know, . If you want the foal to lay down, ex. imprinting. When we bought our palomino mare 2 yrs ago...and she foaled.....the previous owner came over and helped imprint the foal for us.....and she layed the foal down.....and I honestly dont remember how she did it. I read on one website to carefully take the foals head and turn it towards the withers....then the foal will start to go down....not sure if that works or not. And on some other website I remember.....a long time ago.....it just said to pick up the foal and lay/lie(?) it down. Just curious....whats the easiest way to get a foal to lay/lie(?) down. Anyone else have any suggestions?

Oh this is for Imprint Training! You can still do the imprinting while the foal is standing. The doing it while the foal is down came from the foals being imprinted right after they were born. It can be done while the foal is standing. It's not worth risking the foal getting hurt while trying to get it down when you can go right ahead and do what needs to be done while the foal is up. If you have read Dr. Miller's book and/or watched his videos you will see him going thru the process with a foal that is several weeks older. So don't worry about getting the foal to lie down and just go ahead with the process while the foal is standing. Besides you can also just wait for the foal to go down for a nap and then go in and do your imprinting while it is down. ![[Wink]](wink.gif) [ March 19, 2004, 08:05 PM: Message edited by: Sandra-A1 ]
