Well #9's finally here! It's a bay QH colt out of a Te N Te mare and a palomino stud.
Mom with baby after a good roll to get dirty!

Very cute! So what....you're still expecting 15 (or so) more babies? He's beautiful, the dam is a pretty girl herself!
-------------------- Mares: Honey-buckskin(in-foal to a smutty buckskin stallion) BG-palomino/dunalino(foaled a beautiful filly) Dibby-dun(in-foal to a palomino stallion) Star Bucks-buttermilk buckskin(not bred, we may just use her as a riding horse)
Fillies: Lizzy-grulla(will be used as a broodmare in the future, due to an injury as a weanling...we are unsure if she will be riding sound, although she might be, as her injury has healed so well...you can't even tell) Sheba-black(hopefully will be shown in Halter classes starting this year) Blue-blue roan(we aren't too sure what we are going to do with this filly yet....but she is a cutie)
Geldings: Poco-sorrel/overo*Paint*(Awesome riding horse!) Brandy-*FOR SALE*(Nice 2 yr old, going into training soon, price will go up, feel free to ask me about him..if you are interested)
Foals: Tinker Bell- Red dun filly. Nice short neck, long legs, beautiful eyes..absolutely beautiful. Very people friendly.
Other 2 foals are expecting between May and June.

Jumpers- we don't specifically breed for any color, just minimal white. Just kinda end up having mostly chestnuts and sorrels But this one isn't out of any of our studs, we bought the mare bred, and the baby's gonna go back to the previous owners once he's weaned.

Why do you breed for minimal white? I am just curious, I thought paint horses were supposed to have alot of color?

Because we breed for halter horses and too much body white doesn't show off the muscle definition as well as solid colors ![[Smile]](smile.gif)

So why don't you just breed Quarter Horses, Or Thoroughbreds? My understanding of why the APHA was created was for the COLOR. I was told the AQHA was culling out the coloured horses from it's stock, not allowing them to be registered. So those people who had Registered QH's that threw color Started the APHA.(I know that isn't necessarily the true history of the APHA) I got out of owning PAINTs because too many shows were focusing on MINIMAL WHITE, when WHITE and QH/TB bloodlines, are what makes a paint. The excuse that it is for the ability to see the confirmation, well, a good judge can see past the coloring. If I were a judge...... Minimal white would always LOSE, because they don't express, in my opinion, the DISTINGUISHING characteristics of the breed. ie. A LOUD beautiful patterned horse. .....SORRY MY OPINION SNEAKING OUT!!!
BY the way Western Design is AWESOME!!!! [ March 21, 2004, 08:44 AM: Message edited by: Sleipnir ]

That's what I thought too Sleipnir, I figured paints, like appys would want to be loudly colored since they are a color breed. I guess minimal white doesn't mean no white at all, like filly #2 and colt #4. They have white but it does not create a "busy picture" and would be easy for a judge to pick out good and bad faults without worrying about coloring hiding something. I also read somewhere that someone had heard a JUDGE say that he places minimal white paints because they are "easier to judge". I personally like loudly colored paints though. ![[Smile]](smile.gif) [ March 22, 2004, 06:02 AM: Message edited by: gallop3337 ]

If you really think about it, the same is for Apps too. I know at one time, the more solid apps the better!!! That is just a fad... I mean if the paint people like it and want to move that direction that is up to them. If you want to be in to the breeding and showing of Paints then you can choose to breed for color. Just like anything, they have their "trends" and in another 5 years it prob will be back to LOUD paints again.
We have it in ALL types... arabs, TB's, QH's you name it....
I agree, white doesn't make the body look as muscled and shiny as a solid color horse.
If you notice picture #9 is a QH so she does breed them, you just notice most paints are crossed with QH's because of the bloodlines. Obviously it works... because there are world/national champs sitting in her barn!!!!
