I want to start brading my horses tail and put it up so it can grow. I want to put conditonor in it. What show I use. Can i use just any conditonor
or do i have to use a leave-in-conditonor?

I know you can use Mane 'n Tail for a leave in conditioner. I'm not a real big fan of their conditioner though, no matter what I do there seems to be a residue. Any who, it can be used as a regular or leave-in conditioner and a lot of people like the results.

I use clear hair gel for plaiting. For the mane I put a large amout on my hands and rub them together, using fingertips, I run it through the mane. I then divide it off into the required sections and plait one by one. If your horse's hair dries out as you are braiding, a simple squirt of water from an atomiser bottle will help without dampening the mane too much [Smile]

Try using it in your own hair [Wink]

I would only use gel for shows and such though because gel can dry out the hair. (at least human gel does) it has alcohol in it. I use to leave Lotion on my horses tail. It works pretty good and when you wash it out it all comes out it doesnt leave any residue.

I think he/she is talking about a tail braid for everyday, now a show braid. As far as conditioners, I'm not really sure.

I was thinking of shows rather than everyday use. Last week when I went to the local riding club show, I used hair wax. Now that was interesting but the plaits did stay in very well. Especially on my friend's gelding who only has about 31/2 - 4 inches of mane that's super thick (it was hogged when she got him and it has now grown out)

my horse's tail and my little sister's pony's tail was very thin before my mom did this:
1- put showsheen and cowboy magic on your horse or pony's tail (rub it into the ends and the roots).
2- do that as often as you can (for best results, do it every day).
3- every few weeks just snip, i mean just SNIP THE TINIEST BIT off your horses tail (this will make it grow a little faster).

don't braid the tail because then it takes longer to grow!

For just everyday use, I like Healthy Hair Care's detangler/conditioner. One bottle lasts me forever b/c you mix it with water. You can use it like show sheen, but it isn't oily at all. I use it almost everytime I groom. It keeps his mane/tail moisturized so it doesn't break as easily.
