hello all. well im taking my horse to a show in england, that is where i live (i do not know if there are differetnrt rules or regulations from where you all live to here) well...i am not doing any showing on him as i need to get show gear, next week. The show is on sunday and my friend wants to take him into a colored class and a jumping one, i want her to...but the thing is, in the colored classes i may need some advice or tips. He is a 15.1hh belgium cob, and hes 5. Hes MW and has fialry long mane and tail and a big beautiful head. i want to use those to stand out more etc. My friend said i should pull his mane and leave it, others say i should pull it and plait it, and also to plait the tail. im not sure what to do really. I need him looking his best, and it will be his first show, any tips of when he is in the ring? im thinking of working on his canter tomorow or saturday, just going into a nice circle without pulling away, im getting a martingale and mite ask my mate if i can borrow a stronger bit, i want him to be on the bit more, is there any way i can do this within a few days, even if its only slightly, thanx.

Hi
You can either leave the mane and tail natural, plait it, hog the mane and pull the top of the tail(not recommended a few days before the show.
Coloured horse/ponies have become very popular in UK since the start of CHAPS(coloured Horse and Pony society) They have lots of entries in the ridden and In Hand classes now, so turn your horse out as immaculate as possible.
I see your friend is riding your horse, as she practiced her show? If not let me know and I will tell you a simple individual show, that shows the horse on both reins, transition, all paces.
here is the CHAPS web site, you can mail them with any queries http://www.chapsuk.com/index.php
Just to give you some idea of what you may be up against, these photos show the Coloured doing in hand at the show a few weeks ago - these went on to do the Ridden Coloureds(sorry didn't get any photos of Ridden)
You can see that both are plainted up, which is what most do at Open Shows
Hope this helps, if you would like any other tips just say or pm me.

I know it has realy hit off.
That show with the photos was a CHAPS qualifier, yes there are quite a few near me. Will go to the website and tell you which ones (still making this dam blanket, promised it tomorrow, it's 6ft 9in, massive) Just having a break from the sewing machine.
IF ANYONE SEE'S NATURAL WAY ON, SHE SENT ME A PM AND I SENT HER MY E MAIL, TYPED A SHOW OUT FOR HER WITH DIAGRAMS, AND SHE HASN'T GOT BACK TO ME, BUT SHE WAS ON WHEN I DID IT, AND MY PM IS UNREAD.
Thanks ![[Cute Kiss]](graemlins/kiss.gif)
