Pook's got some, mainly on his forehead, but pretty much everywhere. Anyone know what to do? I'd prefer something natural or DIY. Thanx

I've just been brushing it off, but it's a lot of work...especially when it's back the next day!

That's just dirt and scurf...good grooming with clean brushes. I recommend a good shampoo like
Rio Vista's Equine Shampoo...it's great cleaning rain rot and fungus, and the peppermint is gentle and soothing for the coat. http://www.horsegroomingsupplies.com/horse_shampoo.htm

If it's too cold to wash the whole horse you can 'spot' clean. Put some shampoo in a bucket and use a sponege to rub the area. Don't have the sponge too wet.

Are you sure its not lice? If it keeps coming back that might be the issue?

I haven't seen any lice, and I'm sure it's dandruff...just flaky skin

Frequent washing until it is gone. You can use medicated shampoos if you want, but I have used Head and Shoulders for people before. Just test to make sure that your horse doesn't have a reaction to it. It's worked wonders for me. Just scrub deep at it to get everything off and keep it up for a week or two until its gone. [Wink]

One of the girls at our barn uses infusium 23 (i think) it's for people, but works great on dandruff on horses...just spray it on and let it sit!

Will Mane N Tail get rid of it? I love that stuff, and I use it on myself too [Blushing] . My trainer said it would work, but I'm just looking for some different opinions.

Mane and Tail is a conditioner. Wash first with good horse shampoo. Conditioner isn't needed for the forehead but you can use it on the mane and tail.

There's a mane and tail shampoo as well...& a medicated shampoo...and a spray-in detangler.

(I was at TSC today to get a mineral block and was checking out the shampoos, lol.)
